The Research Group Infection Resistance (Dr. Katrin Kierdorf) is looking for a

Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f/d)

We are looking for a highly motivated scientist, trained in Drosophila genetics, immunity and/or metabolism, to work in a highly dynamic and interdisciplinary researcher team focusing on different aspects of tissue-resident macrophage development and function. We aim to recruit an ambitious researcher to complement our Drosophila team and to work on projects dissecting the role of hemocytes as inter-organ signalling hubs in steady state and different immune challenges (Kierdorf et al., 2020; Hersperger et al., 2024). Our lab employs a combination of approaches such as genetic screens, single nuclei RNA-sequencing, live imaging, fate mapping approaches and reporter lines, and metabolomics.

We offer:

  • a diverse and international team of researchers working with invertebrate and vertebrate tissue-resident macrophages
  • a variety of different methods, including imaging, flow cytometry, scRNA-seq/snRNA-seq, cell morphometry, diverse metabolic and functional assays
  • a state of the art workplace allocated at the heart of the medical campus in close proximity to other research institutes and core facilities
  • diverse international collaborations
  • structured project meetings and institute seminars
  • electronic lab books, digital lab management
  • integration into an interactive local research environment and a vibrant research community, such as the excellence cluster CIBSS
  • possibilities for career development and training programs for early career researchers

Required skills:

  • PhD in Biology, Molecular Medicine or a related discipline
  • a high interest in immunological research questions
  • profound experience with Drosophila work
  • experience with large biological datasets and omics data, ideally (scRNA-seq/snRNA-seq and/or metabolomics)
  • very good communication and organizational skills with ability to work to timelines, both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • very good communication and writing skills in English
  • a pure joy in science and a passion for Drosophila research, ideally Drosophila immunity
