Principal Investigator, John Yu, MD, is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to join the team!

Research in the Yu Laboratory is focused on immunotherapy for brain tumors, the cancer stem cell and its microenvironment in brain tumors, cancer stem cell–specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes, cancer stem cell signaling, the mechanism of cancer invasion, and targeted immunochemotherapy using nanotechnology. Working independently but in close cooperation and in consultation with the Principal Investigator and other Research Scientist, the Postdoctoral Scientist will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures throughout training period. The incumbent may develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols. The incumbent analyzes, interprets data, and may assist in the preparation of grant proposals. This position participates in publications and presentations as author or co-author, but is not responsible for generating grant funding.

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develops, tests, and improves nanoparticle formulation of iron oxide nanoparticles for delivery into glioblastoma.
  • Tests mechanism of action of nanoparticles. The scientist will have the support of molecular biologists, immunologists, and laboratory personnel with expertise in animal experimentation.
  • Designs and performs experiments. Will keep appropriate experimental records and documentation and analyze the results with the Principal Investigator.
  • Analyzes, interprets, summarizes and compiles data.
  • Operates and maintains equipment and instruments.

Department-Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop nanoparticles for brain tumor delivery.
  • R01 funded nanotechnology research and novel research for immunotherapy of glioblastoma.

Education:

  • Doctorate (MD, PhD, VMD or DDS) in area directly related to field of research specialization, required.
  • PhD degree in Chemistry is highly preferred.

Experience and Skills:

  • Highly motivated and works independently on research projects designed by a mentor (typically the PI) within area of specialization.
  • Background in iron oxide nanoparticles and or immunotherapy is preferred.
  • Acquires complete technical and theoretical knowledge of research project and objectives during one to five (1-5) year post-doctoral appointment.
  • Demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis, and operation of specialized equipment.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment.
