Postdoctoral studies in pain research

tendersglobal.net

Do you want to investigate mechanisms leading to persistent pain?
Your mission

The Postdoctoral Fellow that joins the team will be investigating pain mechanisms related to changes in bone structures. There is an important two-way communication between bone cells (eg, osteoblasts, osteoclasts) and pain fibers that is mediated by various factors and cells. When this interaction is disturbed, e.g. due to a fracture, joint disease or cancer, it can contribute to the development of chronic pain. The project is focused exploring those mechanisms using cell cultures and animal models. You will be working closely together preclinical and clinical researchers, biomedical engineers and biostatisticians with a mission to gain new insights to pain pathology.

Your profile

You are a creative, hardworking and enthusiastic team player. You have a PhD in neuroscience, biomedical science, or another relevant field.

You have a strong background neuroscience, neuroinflammation or bone biology. Documented practical experience working with bone or nervous tissues, primary cell cultures, immunocytochemistry, image analysis and animal behavioral assessment are considered strong merits

You can work independently but also have the interpersonal and communication skills to succeed at working in a multidisciplinary team. You have a deep sense of responsibility, take initiatives and have capacity and flexibility to work with researchers and students with different expertise.

You have a very good written and spoken English and is a good communicator, both when it comes to  presentations and preparation of publications. You have good recommendations from previous supervisors/teachers.

What do we offer?

We offer a postdoctoral position for two yeas, with the possibility of extending the position for an additional one year, within the five-year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

You will work in a creative, inspiring and vibrant research environment. You will be part of a research team that is dedicated to undertaking translational research with the ultimate goal to uncover cellular and molecular reasons behind pain chronicity.

The appointment will be at the Karolinska Institutet. For more information please visit: http://ki.se/en/fyfa/molecular-pain-research

You will receive post-doctoral training in the laboratory of Prof Svensson, who will provide mentorship and opportunities for personal and professional development and a platform for building a future career in research.
