Position Summary The Pre-Health Academic Advisor reports to the Director of Academic Advising Center & Career Services (AACCS), and works collaboratively with other members of the PHSRC and AACCS as part of an advising team to provide developmental, proactive advising to undergraduate students. This includes serving as primary advisor for students in several health related programs, working with students to assist and assess academic needs and performance, helping students plan their coursework to progress to degree completion, helping students identify coursework appropriate for preparation for health-related graduate programs, planning and presenting outreach programs, developing educational materials, and partnering with advising staff and faculty. Works to ensure students receive accurate, timely, proactive, and holistic advising services in support of promoting student success, retention, and program completion. Strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive environment. The Pre-Health Academic Advisor will also assist with classroom activities of HP 106 “Introduction to Health Careers”. On occasion, the advisor may work weekend and evening hours.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution required by start date
  • Experience in education or advising
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated expertise in using office software packages and email
  • Ability to share complex information in a clear and organized manner in both verbal and written forms to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport with students and knowledge of approaches to student development
  • Experience fostering and promoting the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field by start date
  • Experience advising college students on academic and career related concerns
  • Ability to prioritize and utilize good time management practices
  • Ability to be thorough, consistent, and accurate in the interpretation of policies
  • Demonstrated knowledge of student records systems
