Position Description | The Department of the Classics seeks applications for a preceptor in ancient Greek beginning July 1, 2024. This is a three-year position, renewable for an additional term of up to five years (eight years in total), contingent on performance, enrollments, curricular need, position availability, and divisional dean authorization. The preceptor is expected to offer introductory and / or intermediate-level classes in ancient Greek, to supervise and support teaching fellows in introductory Greek language courses, to develop syllabi and course materials for introductory Greek language courses, and to undertake administrative responsibilities connected with the introductory Greek sequence. The Preceptor will work under the supervision of the Department’s Senior Preceptor. The successful applicant will be well versed in current best practices in ancient language pedagogy and will have experience in teaching ancient Greek at all levels. Specialization in some aspect of ancient Greek literature or linguistics is highly desirable, as is a strong doctoral record. |
Basic Qualifications | Experience in teaching ancient Greek at all levels is required. |
Additional Qualifications | A Ph.D. in Classics or a related discipline is required at the time of appointment (by July 1, 2024). An ability to teach Greek prose composition is desirable, though not required. |
