Prevention of Malnutrition Among School-Age Children and Adolescents

tendersglobal.net

The government’s multisectoral approach integrates nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions, including the prevention, detection, and treatment of wasting; school nutrition programmes; prevention and treatment of anaemia; and efforts to address overweight and obesity. These initiatives, implemented by the Ministry of Health and other line ministries, have contributed to significant progress. Between 2013 and 2023, stunting among children under five dropped from 37.6% to 21.5%, wasting from 12.1% to 8.5%, and overweight/obesity from 11.9% to 4.2%.

To sustain these gains, nutrition indicators have been embedded in the National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) 2025–2029 and the Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPN) 2025–2045. Additionally, the newly elected President has pledged to prioritise nutrition by introducing school meals for all children and food supplementation for children under five and pregnant women. As 2024 marks the final year of the STRANAS Stunting, the Ministry of Health plans to conduct a comprehensive review of its nutrition programmes. This review will assess progress, evaluate existing interventions, and identify factors that can drive sustainable improvements in nutrition outcomes.
