UNICEF JAMAICA goal is to help to fulfil the rights of every child.

We pursue this goal by partnering with stakeholders such as the government, non-governmental organizations, change-makers in civil society and the private sector to influence and improve laws, policies, and programmes which will impact how children access quality services. We are in a unique position to collaborate with everyone including advocates and service providers who work closely with children and their families, as well as the elected leaders who are responsible to ensure that laws and policies are in line with children’s rights. Most importantly, we integrate the voices of our children and adolescents by engaging them on the issues that affect their lives.

Focusing our attention on children in vulnerable situations, we have five priority areas in the Jamaica country programme document (2022 to 2026):

• Child protection;
• Climate action and resilience;
• Education;
• Social policy;
• Survive and thrive.

Everything we do is guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Jamaica ratified in 1991.

How can you make a difference?

Submit your financial proposal to undertake the following activities in keeping with the TOR:

• PSEA internal workflow and Reporting system;
• Training of UNICEF Personnel;
• Capacity Strengthening for Implementing Partners;
• Technical Support to Implementing Partners;
• Mainstreaming PSEA in Programme Documents.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

• Education: Advanced University Degree (Master’s Degree) in Gender, Social Sciences, Human Rights Law, International development, Program Monitoring and evaluation;
• Work Experience: At least 8 years of relevant professional work experience in children’s and women’s rights and violence prevention and response, in particular sexual violence and other forms of GBV:
  • Expertise working on implementation of UN protocol on implementing partners;
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and facilitating training and capacity-building initiatives on PSEA and GBV, using the PSEA Training Toolkit and other existing resources;
  • Experience of working in close collaboration with government institutions, non-government organizations and UN agencies is required.
• Language Requirements: Fluency in English.

Technical Knowledge:

Expert knowledge on the following:

• UN SEA and PSEA policies (e.g. Secretary-General’s Bulletin ST/SGB/2003/13);
• UN Protocol on Victim Assistance (2019);
• CCC and its PSEA commitments;
• Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) guidelines on PSEA and Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP);
• UNICEF’s PSEA Minimum Standards for IPs;
• Knowledge of survivor-centered and do-no-harm principles.

Desirables:

• Excellent planning and organizational skills;
• Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines;
• Ability to clearly defined objectives and plan activities;
• Excellent analytical and written skills;
• Strong communication skills – both oral and written;
• Experience working with UN/international organizations.
