The role

The Principal Advisor – Tenancy Tribunal is a senior role with Unison and has oversight of all matters that have or may escalate to VCAT. The role is responsible for developing and maintaining Unison’s policies and procedures that relate to tribunal matters, as well as providing coaching and training to build the capability of others across our teams.

The role will represent Unison at formal and informal conciliation meetings, tribunals and hearings, particularly where matters that are escalated through tenancy advocate groups or where there is legal representation. To contribute with our strategic planning, the role will have interface with Unison’s Executive Leadership Team to share insights on emerging trends from VCAT decisions.

We are looking for someone with a background in dispute resolution, law or investigations who can provide high quality, strategic tenancy advice and interpret legislative obligations under the Residential Tenancy Act. Demonstrated experience in coaching and training to build capability of others as well as experience in managing formal cases at VCAT and negotiating relevant orders will be highly regarded.

Sound critical thinking skills and knowledge of community housing, homelessness, owner’s corporation or real estate will assist you to hit the ground running in this role.
