- Remuneration: Level 8 from $118,883 – $133,948 + 17% superannuation
- Location: Kensington, New South Wales (Hybrid Flexible Working from home and on campus)

Launched in 2019, UNSW Tax and Business Advisory Clinic identifies and supports people in serious financial hardship by providing them with free tax and accounting advice and education (enabling them to navigate a system that is almost impossible to navigate if unrepresented), conducting breakthrough grassroots research, and creating international award-winning work-integrated learning opportunities for university students.
The Principal Clinic Supervisor will lead the development, delivery and expansion of the Clinic’s internationally award-winning service. In this role, responsibilities include overseeing day-to-day operational matters in collaboration with the Clinic Director and Practice Manager, supervising the frontline team of Clinic Supervisors, all CA/CPA/IPA-qualified registered tax agents. The position also works closely with UNSW Business students and UNSW Law & Justice students in a best practice Work Integrated Learning model. In addition, the Principal Clinic Supervisor will manage the design, delivery and expansion of the Clinic’s incommunity outreach education program.
Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities for this role include (but are not limited to):
- Provide tax and accounting advice and conduct complex casework in accordance with the Clinic’s policies across a broad range of matters while supervising the Clinic Supervisors in their client casework files.
- Identify systemic issues from client work and potential systemic responses.
- Develop and deliver innovative programs encompassing resources, workshops and activities in the area of tax and accounting, targeting the Clinic’s key groups focused on prevention and cultural change.
- Collaborate with the Practice Manager to ensure all clinic operational matters are managed in line with UNSW policy and procedures.
- Actively contribute to the ongoing development, review and refinement of the Clinic’s strategic plan in collaboration with the Clinic Director, including by growing the Clinic’s scale and scope.
- Contribute to the recruitment of Clinic students, oversee student experience alongside the Practice.
- Manager and Lecturer-in-Charge of clinic coursework, and collaborate with the Practice Manager on monitoring and distributing workload for Clinic members.
- Responsible for overseeing completeness and accuracy of client dataset, alongside Practice Manager, which is essential to the Clinic’s evidence-based strategic advocacy projects.
Skills and experience required (but not limited to):
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, including relevant Australian tax units (or equivalent).
- TPB tax agent registration with experience in supporting small business clients.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse, interpret and integrate complex data and provide strategic direction and analysis.
- Outstanding written and oral communication, negotiation and consultation skills, including the ability to exercise initiative, tact and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters.
- Strong initiative and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
- Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
