Join us.Job DescriptionWhat your new role will entail;AECOM is looking for a Principal Ecologist to join our established UK&I Nature team.Depending on the location, your interests and skillset, and the season you could be leading on work winning, working on Advanced Bat Survey Techniques, using innovative techniques for species surveys, and data capture and reporting, as well as be active in the management, coaching and mentoring of the team.The role will require you to:
- Actively support the health, safety and well-being of the team and other colleagues;
- Lead or support with the preparation of high quality and commercially astute bids and tenders for ecological services, notably in the energy, defence, and water sectors.
- OverseePlan, schedule and organise ecological project work, ensuring necessary resources, budgets and controls are in place to meet both programme and budget requirements;
- Lead or support delivery of high-quality ecological consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients, including through our check and review processes;
- Support development of technically robust and pragmatic solutions to complex ecological issues;
- Communicate effectively and professionally with other members of the ecology team, within projects and with clients by telephone, electronically and in both Teams and face to face meetings;
- Lead or support with the production of ecology chapters for environmental statements and protected species licence applications;
- Author or technically check project deliverables to ensure high quality outputs;
- Support the continued development of our technical capabilities and reach;
- Support with specific tasks, innovation or sector engagement.

Our diverse team of professionals not only influence policy and guidance but steer practical and collaborative design decisions that promote positive outcomes.QualificationsHere’s what we will need from you;
- Proven track record of planning and delivery ecological services on projects in the UK or Ireland;
- Well-developed understanding of relevant wildlife conservation or in relation to a least one major habitat type or species;
- Protected species licences, ideally you will hold a Natural England Level 2 licence or higher;
- You will be confident undertaking bat roost assessments of buildings and trees, planning and leading surveys and preparing technical reports.
- Use of thermal cameras and / or night vision equipment;
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution and evidence of working towards Chartership.
- A proactive approach to Health and Safety;
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Positive behaviours and values with respect to client care, pragmatic decision making and building working relationships, including as a team player;
