We’re seeking a Principal Engineer, who thrives on innovating at the crossroads of technology and product vision, ensuring our solutions are scalable, high-quality, and impactful. This pivotal role, reporting directly to the VP of Product Engineering, demands a unique blend of technical expertise, leadership, and collaborative spirit.

You will be instrumental in crafting the technical roadmap for product engineering, ensuring alignment with our strategic objectives. Working in harmony with Directors of Engineering, Staff Engineers, Product Management, and Design, you will be a vital leader in realizing our mission to reimagine the art of hospitality. You will bring a pragmatic and iterative approach to technical decisions, maximizing business value without compromising on quality or user experience. As a Principal Engineer at Mews, you will partner with multiple product tribes, helping to drive technical domains and products that form the backbone of the Mews ecosystem. You will help aid and facilitate technical decision making with a particular focus on cross-cutting concerns, collaborating with multiple teams, across multiple domains and maximising the benefits of shared context.

We champion an ethos where openness and teamwork are the cornerstones, and our product development philosophy is deeply rooted in customer engagement, value realization, seamless delivery, autonomy, and a robust development lifecycle. You’ll be a beacon guiding our teams to not just meet but transcend our collective aspirations, fostering a culture of relentless learning and evolution. Dive into the details of our technology stack, team dynamics, and core tech principles on our website, blog, or Twitter, and join us in this exhilarating journey to redefine hospitality software excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and oversee the implementation of the technical roadmap, harmonizing with business goals and product strategies.
  • Collaborate across engineering tribes to ensure the integration of scalable and quality solutions.
  • Be a multiplier by fostering cross domain inputs and decision making.
  • Partner with Platform Enablement, Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure the future Mews platform is driven by the needs of our customers and the business.
  • Work directly with Engineers and Staff Engineers, levelling up our knowledge and skills across the entire function.
  • Serve as a communication bridge between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, adeptly conveying complex technical concepts in clear, accessible language.
  • Champion architectural excellence, modern software development best practices, and continuous improvement across the organization.
  • Provide mentorship and inspire technical teams, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation abilities, to effectively articulate technical visions and strategies.
  • Foster synergy with fellow Engineering Leaders and across the R&D spectrum to set and execute best practices, enhancing our software’s efficiency, quality, and reliability.
  • Amplify Mews’ presence in the tech community, engaging in speaking engagements and contributing to our blog and podcasts.
  • Architect the future of Mews’ interconnected product ecosystem, with a sharp focus on scalability and interoperability.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years in software engineering, with a substantial portion in a senior or leadership role.
  • Proven experience in strategic technical planning and execution for large-scale product engineering initiatives.
  • Exceptional communicator with stellar written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Comfortable engaging in both detailed technical implementation and executive-level strategy discussions.
  • As comfortable with hands-on coding and pair programming as with strategic discussions at the executive level.
  • Expert knowledge of architectural patterns, modern software development practices, and technological trends.
  • Proficient with Agile, Scrum, and other iterative development methodologies.
  • Deep expertise in designing, rolling out and managing mission-critical SaaS platforms and mobile applications.
