Fishtek ltd, part of the RSK Group, is looking to appoint a Principal Fisheries Scientist on a full time, permanent basis. Our purpose-built office is based in Dartington, South Devon, however the location can be flexible depending on candidate.
Fishtek Consulting is a specialist fisheries science and river engineering consultancy based in
Devon but with a global client base. Our team of environmental scientists, fisheries biologists
and engineers work in synergy to find innovative solutions to fisheries and environmental
problems, covering topics such as fish and eel pass design, natural flood management, river
restoration, off-take and abstraction design and screening, fisheries impact assessments,
invasive species surveys and fisheries monitoring.
We seek an experienced and enthusiastic freshwater Principal
Fisheries Consultant with extensive consultancy experience that includes
preparing bids, project management and being the technical lead on fish and eel pass design
projects.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare initial quotations and tender responses
- Undertake site visits and surveys
- Liaison with clients, stakeholders and government agencies
- Obtaining permissions and consents, including liaising with the Environment Agency fish
pass panel - Act as the technical lead on a range of projects including fish and eel pass design
- Undertake technical report writing and provide specialist knowledge to clients and
colleagues - Project management, including budget and programme management
- Supervising and mentoring junior staff
- Work closely with our engineers and CAD technicians to develop designs
- Review of technical work according to relevant industry guidance and standards (i.e. IFM
Fish Pass Manual, WFD, EA SHEWCoP, CDM, FRAP permitting system)
Person Specification:
Essential
- A minimum of a bachelors degree in scientific or environmental discipline
- Relevant years’ environmental consultancy experience.
- Full driving licence
- Previous knowledge of fish and eel pass design
- Excellent technical report writing skills
- Understanding of fisheries legislation and industry standards, including the fish pass
application process - Experience of working in another discipline, such as freshwater fisheries monitoring,
geomorphology, river restoration or similar - Evidence of project management experience and supporting junior staff
Desirable
- Post graduate qualification in a scientific or environmental discipline
- Relevant years’ consultancy experience
- Experience of using MS project
- Chartered Environmentalist (IFM, CIWEM or similar)
- GIS or CAD experience
- Prince 2 project management or similar
Salary and Benefits:
