Ref 77566 Vacancy title Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer Function(s) Design, Engineering, Infrastructure, Pre-construction Contract type Full time permanent Region National Location(s) London/Manchester/Motherwell DescriptionThis is a brilliant opportunity to join a growing discipline (and an award-winning team!), as we build our Land Quality and Geo-Environmental capabilities throughout BakerHicks’ offices across the United Kingdom.Our works cover the whole of the United Kingdom with schemes delivered over the last 12 months as far north as Shetland and as far south as Devon providing a huge variety in ground conditions and problems to solve. Schemes vary from delivering a peer review, designing a new 160km power distribution network or undertaking a geohazards assessment of the whole of Scotland’s railway.In this role, you will be required to prepare and input to various stages of Geo-Environmental and Ground Engineering deliverables, supporting the company’s growth on all aspects of projects including public, infrastructure, life sciences, nuclear and aviation.While there are hybrid working options within this team, there will be a requirement to travel within the UK, from time to time to undertake site visits. A full and valid UK driving license is required.What you will do
- Input to and prepare technical deliverables within the Geo-Environmental and Ground Engineering team.
- Undertake technical review and checking on Geo-Environmental deliverables prepared by junior grades.
- Represent BakerHicks in external project meetings and during site visits as required.
- Review specialist subcontractor’s reports for technical compliance with design intent.
- Stay informed about Geo-Environmental design trends/customer awareness/design techniques.
- Contribute to the development and mentoring of junior staff.
- Support the development of Geo-Environmental service capabilities across BakerHicks’ geographic locations.
RequirementsQualifications
- Chartered Membership of an appropriate body (SocEnv, GeolSoc, CIWEM etc)
- Degree qualified in Geology, Environmental Sciences, Applied Geology, Geography and Geology (or equivalent relevant subject). A higher level qualification such as an MSc would be advantageous.
Experience
- Experience within a Geo-Environmental / Engineering Consultancy at Senior / Principal Engineer level.
- Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC) would be an advantage.
- Demonstrable experience preparing and checking technical reports including – Phase 1, Phase 2, and remediation method statements
- Commercial aptitude via management of project budgets and time allowances for report delivery.
- Production of Ground Investigation Specifications in line with UK Specification for Ground Investigation.
- Prepare fee budgets, proposals and resource requirements for projects and undertake business development
- Up to date with adoptable standards and practices.
About You
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and oral
- Conversant with current technical codes, standards and responsibilities under CDM and health and safety regulations.
- Proven ability to work within a fully integrated, multi-discipline design team.
- Full UK Driving Licence
- A willingness to travel for short periods of site works within the UK.
