We’re looking for a knowledgeable Principal Project Engineer to join our growing Engineering team at NPL. Reporting into the Head of department, you will play a vital part in stretching our capability and taking our research to the next level. In this hybrid role you will spend approx. 2 – 3 days a week on site in Teddington, and 2 – 3 days working remotely. We value your work-life balance and are open to discuss flexible or part-time working arrangements to accommodate your needs.As the Principal Project Engineer, you’ll act as the lead technical input to all site infrastructure projects and ensuring that the highest quality technical solutions are applied, cost-effectively and within schedule. You’ll review technical submissions, generate business cases and use your technical knowledge to appraise equipment and make recommendations for further efficiencies and compliance. What’s more, you’ll ensure that all safety procedures are followed and reported. Your work will have a tangible impact on our business and the UK as a whole. You will work with a team of professionals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, celebrating the unique contributions that everyone brings to the team.What you’ll be doing:

  • Managing the engineering delivery of a work package or project across a broad range of technologies and disciplines
  • Working closely with internal stakeholders:
  • To support the implementation of the NPL project delivery framework, ensuring that the quality and content of projects is appropriate, whilst respecting budgets and timescales
  • To provide engineering and strategic direction for projects or work packages and conveying their needs, risks, and successes
  • To provide the technical expertise to assist with the development and implementation of the technical strategy, helping to shape our site infrastructure
  • To monitor and deliver infrastructure-based projects
  • Producing and maintaining a suite of technical project documentation (System Engineering Management Plan, system design documentation, system requirements and technical specifications, test, and commissioning plans)
  • Delivering and executing Engineering Projects to a high standard
  • Advising the project team on technical solutions, designs and/or critical equipment operational and commissioning issues
  • Building technical specifications ready to tender the supply chain
  • Reviewing and supporting commercial opportunities and bids

About YouWhat you can bring to the role:

  • Previous experience of delivering projects in a regulated and high technology environment (with a focus on engineering)
  • Knowledge and experience of Systems Engineering and Requirements
  • A project management qualification
  • Excellent Stakeholder Management skills
