Principal Scientist – Computational Science, Non-Clinical SafetyThe R&D Non-Clinical Safety (NCS) organisation applies cellular and molecular approaches to elucidate mechanisms of toxicity, understand species differences, and identify translational safety biomarkers to inform project decisions.NCS requires image analysis and data science expertise to support cell and tissue-based imaging studies including analysis of multidimensional datasets such as flow cytometry, contributing to establishing leading platforms to evaluate the safety of new medicines.We create a place where people can grow, be their best, be safe, and feel welcome, valued and included.   • Design and develop analysis approaches for high throughput, multidimensional data with a focus on supporting flow cytometry and in vitro cell imaging studies.
  • Support analyses of next-generation sequencing, RNA seq and multiparameter cytokine data in-line with NCS priorities with a specific focus on the identification of safety biomarkers.
  • Identify and implement state-of-the-art data mining methodologies and machine learning algorithms to aid interpretation of cellular and molecular assays.
  • Define, refine and implement standards for quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) to ensure high quality data and reports building confidence in GSK’s integrity and scientific credibility with partners and global regulatory authorities.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with R&D data- and biological- scientists as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Contribute to experimental design based on study objectives and provide custom data visualisations/analytics.
  • Translate informatics solutions into business-oriented biomedical understanding with the aim to support decision-making in drug discovery and development processes.
  • Execute and optimise analysis algorithms and data flow at scale, employing GSK’s computing infrastructure.
  • Produce high quality documentation of methods (e.g., protocol contributions, scope of work), analysis results and interpretation to inform internal decision-making and contributions to regulatory submissions as required.

Why you?Basic Qualifications & Skills:We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • PhD in a relevant computational / biological discipline (e.g., physics, biochemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, mathematics etc.).
  • Experience in analysing multidimensional data sets including flow cytometry and cellular imaging studies.
  • Ability to communicate and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Expertise in scientific computing and programming (R, Python or MATLAB).
  • Experience analysing next-generation sequencing and ‘omics data to enhance understanding of biological processes (desirable but not essential).
  • Previous experience working with non-clinical safety / toxicology data (desirable but not essential).
