UK Hydrographic Office
tendersglobal.net
If you offer a high-level understanding of bathymetric data, this is an exciting opportunity to
join the UK Hydrographic Office as we shape our digital future and develop innovative ways to
unlock a deeper understanding of the world’s oceans.
About the UK Hydrographic Office (UKHO)
We are a world-leading centre for hydrography, specialising in marine geospatial data to
support safe, secure and thriving oceans. We fulfil the UK government’s Safety of Life at Sea
obligations and are relied upon by defence users, government and global shipping.
The role
We are undergoing significant change and transformation as we evolve to become a digital first
organisation and develop the next generation of bathymetric data handling capability, utilising
the latest tools and technologies.
To enable us to achieve this ambition we require a specialist in bathymetric data to share
their technical expertise to create and maintain a live strategy for bathymetric data
processing and feed into the development of the UKHO’s strategy and future offering.
You will work closely with colleagues, external stakeholders and customers, including other
government departments, public bodies, wider industry and academia. Sharing your specialist
expertise, you will help shape strategic decisions internally and ensure the duplication of
efforts across government and wider industry / academia is avoided.
What we are looking for
We are looking for candidates who are able to apply their technical expertise to complex or
strategic real world challenges. You will have a clear awareness and appreciation of the wider
challenges and opportunities that could enable or impact the delivery of technical solutions
and have the people skills to be able to work collaboratively and influence effectively at all
levels.
You will need an intrinsic understanding of bathymetric data in all formats and sources, and
knowledge of the technologies available or in development to drive decision making. You will
also be able to demonstrate a personal and professional commitment to your field of expertise.
In return
UKHO is a great place in which to explore your career potential. While our projects are
career-defining, the work/life balance that we can offer you is equally exceptional. From
flexitime, flexible working, an award-winning office environment and a generous annual leave
allowance of 34.5 days including public holidays, the opportunities open to you here are hard
to beat.
At UKHO flexible working is our default: we balance the freedom to choose how we work with our
responsibility to meet business need. We manage through trust and measure performance on
outcomes, not presence. You will benefit from amazing career development opportunities, a great
company benefits package and a friendly, collaborative and supportive working team and
environment.
The role will be contractually based at our office in Taunton. We have embraced hybrid working,
recognising it is about what you bring to the role and deliver, not where you work from. As a
team we come in once a month, to touch base, share and develop ideas for the service (and have
breakfast!).
