Posting Context Statement The University of Idaho (U of I) is a research university. The University Communications and Marketing (UCM) Creative Services Print Production team is a key component to telling the U of I story far and wide. The U of I is currently looking for our next Print Production Manager to lead the Printing Services team. This is a fast paced, deadline driven role. The Print Production Manager works collaboratively with our graphic design team and campus partners to ensure the highest quality print materials are produced on time and on budget.
Position Overview This position works collaboratively with the in-house creative team and external clients to ensure products meet or exceed the University of Idaho’s quality and standards. The position manages the high-quality production of printed materials that tell the Vandal story and ensure a positive reflection of our brand. The incumbent of this position will manage the entire print production process.
Duties may include:
  • Managing the internal print team processes and employees
  • Coordinating with outside print partners
  • Strategizing with management
  • Implementing quality assurance measures to ensure operational demands
  • Working with client partners to meet expectations with demanding budgets and deadlines
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

Required Experience
  • Five years of experience in print operations to include:
    • Operating and maintaining high-speed copiers and bindery equipment
    • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, word processing and spreadsheet software
    • Providing financial or business process support within established policies and procedures
    • Records management and retention
    • Inventory control experience
    • Supervisory duties

Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing or Graphic Design; four years of additional experience (for a total of nine years) may substitute for a Bachelor’s Degree
Required Other
  • Occasional regional travel
  • Work nonstandard hours to meet business needs

Additional Preferred
  • Experience with extensive project management
  • Knowledgeable with large and small format litho and inkjet printing, dye-sublimation and specialty finishing techniques
  • Experience in a cost recovery (charge back) business model is a bonus
  • Experience understanding and application of mathematical concepts
  • Experience and understanding of purchasing and procurement
  • Experience and knowledge running digital presses and worked with all types of finishing equipment.
  • Experience with business management preparing invoices for billing, tracking supply costs, establishing price structure to assuring profit and cost effective structure; analyzing needs and develops and recommending budget and equipment purchases; researching new methods to improve products and services; preparing estimates for clients
  • Experience with personnel management in planning, organizing staffs, directing work, supervising pre-press, press and bindery staff and coordinating with Design Services Manager and Copy Center Coordinator; overseeing quality of work produced by staff; developing team-building models for successful operation
