In this position you have the opportunity to work in a diverse core team of engineers, scientists and other operations experts on the development and implementation of the process model for the entire operations structure of the VLT and ELT facilities. The development approach considers a lean concept, with incorporated sustainability components, as well as the digital transformation of the Observatory.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Mapping of existing workflows and -practices into process flows.
- Prepare and conduct workshops for the modelling of new or modified process alternatives.
- Build and maintain the process data content in the given model structure.
- Performance analysis of processes and process chains.
- Reporting and presentation of analysis results.
- Implementation of processes and success control.
Reports to:
You will be reporting to the Director’s Office Head.
Key Competences and Experience:
- Process experience, ideally in maintenance and or manufacturing.
- Excellent team play abilities in a diverse and multicultural environment.
- Good approach to management of cultural change.
- Experience in process mapping and associated technologies.
- Knowledge of scripting languages and ability to adapt to existing standards.
- Comprehensive reporting and result presentation.
Qualifications:
University degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline, with further specialisation and experience in process engineering.
Language skills:
The position requires a strong command of written and spoken English.

The contract is for a fixed term duration of three years, and is subject to successful completion of the probation period. Duty Station:
The duty station will be the Paranal Observatory, located 120 km south of the city of Antofagasta, Chile. Occasionally, and depending on project needs, working periods on ESO premises will be organized. The working schedule at the Observatory will be 8 days on duty and 6 days off duty (8×6).
