The Great Basin Institute (GBI) is hiring a Project Archivist Research Associate (RA) to work cooperatively with The National Park Service’s Bryce Canyon National Park (BRCA) Museum Program staff who will work in support of multiple archives projects.
The Project Archivist responsibilities will have a strong emphasis on processing (including, but not limit to, appraising, arranging, rehousing, and preservation) and describing record groups of Bryce Canyon National Park records and associated documents. Work would include appropriate arrangement of archival records to (1) provide a fixed and known location for every collection so that it can be referenced, and (2) bring related materials together in some logical order to increase accessibility.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Process, arrange, describe, and provide access to physical and digital archival collection according to NPS museum and records management policies and procedures that are specifically related to previous and ongoing projects at the park according to current Processing Plans
- Uses Interior Collection Management System to enter, retrieve, and compile archives data;
- Learns and utilizes records appraisal guided by standardized documentation like NPS-19 and the REIM guide;
- Learns and utilizes archival description to the DACS standard and writes metadata for collections;
- Performs collection recordkeeping such as preliminary inventories, processing plans, and creating finding aids;
- Makes collections accessible for study and reference by assisting with research requests both in-house and through email;
- Creates section 508 compliant finding aids to publish online, increasing digital accessibility for researchers and the public;.
- Assist the Museum Curator with broader museum and archives tasks, including annual inventories, collection room tours, rehousing collections, pest management, and environmental monitoring, and other duties as assigned.

- Full time (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Location:
This position will be duty stationed at Bryce Canyon National Park working under the direction of the Bryce Canyon Museum Curator. The curator is duty stationed at Zion National Park. Most communications with the curator will occur via messaging, video calls, and emails along with at least 2 in-person work sessions per month.
Bryce Canyon is not a single canyon, but a series of natural amphitheaters or bowls, carved into the edge of a high plateau. The most famous of these is the Bryce Amphitheater, which is filled with irregularly eroded spires of rocks called hoodoos. Opportunities for sightseeing, hiking, and camping abound. Work will be based out of park offices in Bryce, UT.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Wage: $23.50 to $25.75/hr DOE
- Housing Stipend: $100/pay period

Job Qualifications: Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in library sciences, history, anthropology, museum studies or related field;
- Demonstrated technical knowledge in archival collections management, including appraisal, processing, arrangement, description, cataloging, preservation, and research;
- Experience entering archival metadata into the Interior Collections Management System (ICMS) database or other similar software;
- Ability to work with minimal direct supervision;
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, possessing strong organizational skills to effectively plan and complete assigned workload within defined timelines;
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with a diverse audience, including co-workers, members of the public, and agency personnel;
- Intermediate or higher skills using Microsoft Word, Access, and Excel, with ability to manually enter, manage, manipulate, and graphically display data;
- Flexibility to handle competing and changing priorities with a positive attitude;
- Ability to work productively, consistently, and independently or cooperatively as part of a team to accomplish mutual goals;
- Ability to complete activities involving prolonged periods of deskwork, lifting and moving heavy items weighing 25 pounds or more, and regularly walking/driving between curation and other facilities;Possess a valid, clean state-issued driver’s license; and
- Willingness and ability to consistently enact high performance standards and a strong work and team ethic in support of the goals and objectives of the position and the mission of GBI.

The successful applicant must complete a Department of Interior Background Investigation (BI) or submit paperwork to NPS human resources indicating an active and fully adjudicated BI has already been completed prior to beginning this position.
