Established shortly after the war in Ukraine escalated in February 2022, UNICEF Refugee Response Office in Poland has been working together with civil society and government partners at the local and central levels to strengthen systems, expand and adapt existing services, support policy development, provide technical expertise and capacity building. Two years on, we continue to work together to ensure refugee children and adolescents in Poland continue learning, families stay healthy and safe, and that best interests of all children, including the most vulnerable, are always prioritized in decision-making.

How can you make a difference?

The Procurement Associate under the supervision of the Operations Manager performs highly skilled work on UNICEF procurement activities and manages the more complex cases and requests from Programme Sections, which frequently requires the evaluation of difficult situations and adaptation of procedures and processes to resolve such cases. This is the senior GS level for specialized procurement/supply chain work and requires advanced specialized knowledge acquired through formal training and experience. The function is characterized as highly independent and provides opportunities for Associates to lead and carry out responsibility for end to end supply chain management from the beginning to the end of the process and provide input into the design and development of improved supply chain services and delivery mechanisms.

  • Education: Completion of secondary education is required, supplemented by technical or university courses related to supply chain, business administration, contract/commercial law, or another relevant technical field.

A completed university degree from an accredited institution may be counted toward the minimum work experience requirements (Bachelor’s degree = 3 years of related work experience; Master’s degree = additional 2 years)

  • Work Experience: At least six (6) years of relevant administrative work experience in supply chain management or a commercial context. Understanding of development and humanitarian work is an advantage.
  • Skills:
    • Experience using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other office tools; working working knowledge of ERP systems including SAP platform is a huge advantage.
    • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, suppliers and colleagues and gain the assistance and cooperation of others in a team endeavor.
    • Ability to draft clear and concise reports or rationale for supply related decisions on key issues.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English and Polish is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

Desirables:

  • Thorough knowledge of a range of specialized topics, including the relevant supply chain policies, partnership mechanisms, rules and regulations, customs and relevant local Polish laws.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.
