Procurement Heads Consumer team is working with a leading UK food supplier to hire a Procurement Manager.This company specialises in ambient foods, selling these items under their own brand and as private label products for many major retailers and food service companies.While they were established over 40 years ago and boast extensive experience in the food industry, they are also mindful of the future: they are committed to sourcing their products responsibly and participate in global initiatives to improve working conditions and ensure ethical practices throughout their supply chain.Working alongside the MD, the Procurement Manager will be part of the senior management team, liaising daily with worldwide suppliers.They will be involved in all aspects of the purchasing process from identifying new suppliers, understanding market movements and managing order placements.This role is based at their Head Office in Surrey and will suit a local candidate as they are on-site 4 days a week, with one day working from home.Responsibilities:

  • Find products that meet customer needs and offer the best price, delivery time, and quality.
  • Negotiate good deals with suppliers, including price, payment terms, and other benefits.
  • Ensure all sourcing activities follow the company’s ethical sourcing guidelines.
  • Help with quality control, import/customs clearance, and on-time deliveries (if applicable).
  • Manage customer requests for products, keeping sales and marketing informed on pricing.
  • Process purchase orders and paperwork in the company system.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all procurement activities.
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet stock and delivery targets.
  • Regularly research and introduce new suppliers to the company.
  • Understand customer needs and their specific brand requirements.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven experience in product buying
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Excellent time management and communication skills
  • Knowledge of international shipping (desirable)
  • Strong planning and organisation skills
  • Proficiency in IT and spreadsheets
  • French or Spanish language skills (helpful, but not required)
