Mission and objectives
UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security. Placing women’s rights at the centre of all its efforts, the UN Women leads and coordinates United Nations system efforts to ensure that commitments on gender equality and gender mainstreaming translate into action throughout the world. It provides strong and coherent leadership in support of Member States’ priorities and efforts, building effective partnerships with civil society and other relevant actors.
Context
The scope of work aims to provide UN Women with the necessary evidentiary foundation to underscore the essential imperative of applying a gender perspective to climate change policies, specifically with a focus on energy transition in the Western Balkans and water security in Central Asia.
Task description
We are looking for 6 Online Volunteers who have experience in research with excellent writing skills. The task will include the following responsibilities:
Examination of Gendered Impacts (Economic, Political, Social) from Existing Climate Change Policies in Central Asia and the Western Balkans
• Detailed impacts and examples to be determined based on the research findings. Potential examples include:
• Evaluating the economic value of unpaid care work due to disparities in women’s and men’s access to water and energy in the Western Balkans and Central Asia.
• Executing a regional survey to gauge women’s access to green financing for entrepreneurial ventures and its potential impact on the economies of the Western Balkans and Central Asia.
Conducting a comprehensive portfolio analysis of climate financing provided by International Financial Institutions (IFIs), particularly focusing on the Green Deal, from a gender perspective.
Analysis of Best Practices in Applying a Gender Lens to Climate Change Policies
• Examining national and regional opportunities through comparative country analysis and case studies.
• Detailed impacts and examples to be determined based on the research findings. Potential examples include:
• Assessing the role of women in adaptation to climate change and the return on investment associated with targeted measures for women in adaptation in the Western Balkans and Central Asia.
• Evaluating the return on investment resulting from climate change policies that support women’s transition from informal to formal economies.
Development of Policy and Program Recommendations for UN Women’s Future Engagement Including an overview of the potential positive outcomes associated with a just transition and enhanced water security for women and girls.
