Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Content Services Unit, Meetings Support Section, Meetings and Publishing Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, New York. Production editing involves the copy-preparation, copy-editing, formatting and proofreading of complex reports and other content for both print and digital publication, in accordance with United Nations language and editorial policies and standards. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Meetings Support Section.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Production Editor will be responsible for the following duties: • Using advanced publishing tools, applies their editorial and layout expertise to ensure that the published output is of the highest quality and standards. • Works on a broad range of materials in Spanish and collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and consistency in both layout and linguistic elements. • Develops templates, technical specifications and style sheets for the formatting and production of Spanish content. • Assures continuity of style, accuracy of content, and conformity with established United Nations grammar, style and typography. • Utilizes advanced publishing tools in the production of all content, including (but not limited to) graphical elements, tables, pictures, and logos. • Checks concordance of Spanish text with the texts of other official languages to ensure conformity. • Performs quality control and prepares final output for print and/or digital publication publishing, web posting and archiving. • Counsels and assists proofreaders/production editors, and desktop publishing assistants, and briefs and/or trains them on and proofreading, production editing, and on the procedures and practices of the Unit, as required. • Performs extensive research on substantive issues related to publication, using electronic glossaries, terminology databases and internal and external Internet resources. • Provides guidance on Spanish production and proofreading to DGACM and Secretariat publishing entities. • Monitors workflow and maintain records of all work assigned. • Performs other related duties as required.

Education
A first‐level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status.
Job – Specific Qualification
Passing one of the relevant United Nations Competitive Examinations for language positions: Spanish Translators, Editors, Verbatim Reporters or Proofreaders/Production Editors is required.
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in production editing and proofreading text, graphics, tables for reports, publications and books during all stages of production is required. Experience with Adobe publishing software and content management systems is required. Experience with digital publishing, e-books and web-based content is desirable. Experience in the supervision of creative teams is desirable. Experience in managing multiple projects with a meticulous eye for detail, strong communication abilities, and robust time and project management skills is desirable.
Languages
For this position, fluency in Spanish, which must be the candidate’s main language (i.e. mother tongue or main language of education), is required. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of one of the other official languages is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures. • This position is temporarily available until 31 August 2025. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. • While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post. • Subject to the funding source of the position, the eligibility for this temporary job opening may be limited to candidates based at the duty station. • This temporary job opening may be limited to “internal candidates,” who have been recruited through a competitive examination administered according to staff rule 4.16 or staff selection process including the review of a central review body established according to staff rule 4.15. • Staff members of the United Nations common system organizations who will reach the mandatory age of separation or retirement within the duration of the current temporary need period are not eligible to apply. United Nations Considerations
