The FHI 360 Global Connections department engages with various institutions and individuals in the United States and worldwide to strengthen professional, cultural, youth, and academic exchanges and educational/training linkages. The department also works on online and third-country participant training that focuses on professional and institutional development in various technical areas.
Global Connections has an exciting opening for recent graduates and current students at all levels and institutions interested in growing their skills within the human development and non-profit sector. This position will offer practical experience and broad exposure to various international exchange programs funded primarily by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, focusing on academic, cultural, sports, and professional exchanges. The Professional Exchange Program intern will work closely with a cross-section of staff and simultaneously work on multiple tasks or projects.
All interns are assigned real-life tasks and given professional titles to be used throughout the semester. Professional Exchange Program interns will have the opportunity to gain valuable networking skills through internal and external FHI 360 events and have additional professional development opportunities that can be used in multiple employment settings.
The internship is based in FHI 360’s Washington, D.C. office and will primarily be performed remotely; however, with the resumption of in-person exchange activities, there may be opportunities to engage directly with participants in-person at various D.C. locations. We will also work with students to arrange academic credit and meet other program requirements.
This is a paid internship with a flexible schedule based on project needs.

The Professional Exchange Program intern will work closely with a cross-section of staff teams and simultaneously work on multiple tasks and projects. Under the supervision and mentorship of the Professional Exchange Program Intern Coordinator and additional project staff, the intern will learn about the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) and the Sports Visitor and Sports Envoy Programs (SVSEP), as well as other exchange activities within Global Connections.
Through short-term in-person or virtual engagements to the United States, current and emerging foreign leaders in various fields experience the U.S. firsthand and cultivate lasting relationships with their American counterparts while on the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).
