Brot für die Welt ist das weltweit tätige Entwicklungswerk der evangelischen Kirchen in Deutschland. In mehr als 90 Ländern rund um den Globus befähigt das Werk arme und ausgegrenzte Menschen, aus eigener Kraft ihre Lebenssituation zu verbessern. Dabei arbeitet Brot für die Welt eng mit lokalen, oft kirchlichen Partnerorganisationen zusammen.

 

DÜ ist eine der bundesweit sieben vom Entwicklungshelfer-Gesetz (EhfG) anerkannten Organisationen. Mit einem Vertrag nach EhfG erhalten Fachkräfte auch im Ausland eine sozialversicherungsrechtliche Absicherung nach deutschen Standards. Zudem vermittelt DÜ in Vorbereitung und Begleitung relevantes Wissen und praktische Fähigkeiten für die interkulturelle Tätigkeit mit den Menschen.

Dienste in Übersee gGmbH (DÜ) has been looking for development workers for partner organisations of Bread for the World for a good 60 years. DÜ selects these ecumenically and developmentally committed professionals according to standardised procedures, trains them in intensive preparation for the service lasting several weeks and accompanies them during their time abroad and after their return.

Bread for the World is the worldwide development agency of the Protestant churches in Germany. In more than 90 countries around the globe, the organisation empowers poor and marginalised people to improve their living conditions through their own efforts. Bread for the World works closely with local, often church-based partner organisations.

DÜ is one of the seven organisations in Germany recognised by the German Development Aid Act (EhfG). With a contract according to the EhfG, professionals receive social security coverage according to German standards abroad. In addition, DÜ imparts relevant knowledge and practical skills for intercultural work with people in preparation and accompaniment.

Bread for the World Pacific Office and its partner organisations

The international office of Bread for the World Pacific, called the Liaison Office (VEST), has already existed for about 15 years. Its main tasks are to accompany financially supported projects and to advise and qualify the approximately 50 church and non-church partner organisations in Melanesia, especially in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Tonga and Fiji. Project activities focus on democracy promotion, human rights, climate change, food security and lobbying against deep-sea mining. In addition, VEST supports the lobbying work of partner organisations and represents Bread for the World in the region. There is a cooperation with the Southeast Asia and Pacific Department in Berlin. In addition to the director, VEST currently has 11 employees.

Among the partner organisations are small organisations with great political influence. They are the mouthpiece of civil society and highly motivated to work for socially just and sustainable development. The importance of development cooperation in the Pacific, for example with regard to the consequences of climate change, is growing. An expansion of partner organisations is imminent.

In this context, your expertise in project management will contribute to the development cooperation efforts by supporting partner organizations in areas such as result-oriented planning, project monitoring and evaluation, and securing external funding. Your guidance will encompass activities such as proposal writing, implementing evaluation recommendations, establishing monitoring systems, and report generation. VEST provides technical and methodological advice based on the specific needs of the partner organisations. In doing so, it attaches particular importance to the approach of joint learning and dialogue at eye level. An international professional is being sought for the area of project management.

The office of VEST Pacific is located in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.

 

Job Scope

You will support the partner network of Bread for the World in the Pacific (Papua New

Guinea, Solomon Islands and Fiji) by providing coaching, professional training and advice in a needs- and partner-oriented way and by deepening the skills of VEST colleagues for project management in the partner dialogue.

 

In detail, you will be responsible for the following tasks:

 

  • Advising partner organisations, e.g. through professional training and needs-oriented consulting in the areas of project planning, proposal writing, monitoring system development, reporting, evaluation support, and fundraising
  • Coaching employees of partner organisations and colleagues of the VEST individually in their work in the PME-subjects
  • Providing partner-oriented advice and support on project management issues, including proposal writing, evaluation implementation, and reporting
  • Strengthening the project management competencies of colleagues through training, coaching, and mentoring
  • Designing, organising, and independently conducting professional training sessions
  • Facilitating, designing, and moderating peer-learning methods, including in collaboration with service providers
  • Supporting partners to initiate and implement relevant changes
  • Documenting lessons learned for knowledge and change management purposes
  • Identifying opportunities for collaboration, e. g. for building capacity in the areas of planning, monitoring, evaluation, and joint learning among partner organizations, and supporting these initiatives

 

Profile

  • Work experience in project management, knowledge on securing external funding would be an asset
  • A relevant university degree is required (at least Bachelor)
  • Competence in English (both written and spoken)
  • Systemic thinking and high motivation to contribute to change projects
  • You enjoy supporting your colleagues through peer counselling/workshops
  • Effective and engaging communication skills, intercultural sensitivity and adaptability
  • Openness and motivation for social integration into Papua New Guinean’s culture and willingness to travel for business

Citizenship of a Member State of the European Union or Switzerland is required.
