About the opportunity

The DVC Education portfolio supports the development and implementation of the University’s strategy and vision for teaching and learning and students’ educational experience. The portfolio contributes to institution-wide developments aimed at improving student learning, including the University’s approach to curriculum renewal, new thinking in pedagogy, learning and teaching analytics, eLearning and quality assurance for learning and teaching. Its primary functions include professional learning and support for educational excellence and innovation; academic enrichment through curricular and co-curricular programs; and strategic, policy, analytics and administrative support in implementing and monitoring the University’s vision for learning and teaching.
We seek a dedicated and experienced senior leader for the role of Professor (Education Focused) Student Digital to lead the University’s efforts in ensuring that all systems and technologies, both current and emerging, are selected, designed and implemented with a student-centric approach. This is a continuing role dedicated to ensuring that the end-to-end digital student experience, including learning, support, and administration, remains student-focused. It encompasses both established systems and the evolving requirements of our diverse student community. The successful candidate will work closely with Information and Communication Technology (ICT) leadership to pioneer inventive strategies for digital learning and support, ensure systems are intuitive for students and that their needs are met across all facets of their University journey, making the most of new technologies such as generative AI. This aligns with the University’s vision to place students at the centre of all we do by 2032.
The Professor (Education Focused) Student Digital) dedicates the majority of their contribution to teaching and teaching-related activities (up to 70%), with a minimum of 20% research and 10% governance, service, and engagement. Additionally, you will mentor junior academics, providing advice on teaching methodologies, education research approaches, publications, and career advancement.

About you (skills, capabilities and experience)
You will hold a PhD in a pertinent field and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contemporary student digital landscapes, as well as educational information technology leadership and practices, within higher education. Your expertise extends beyond digital learning to encompass a holistic understanding of the full student experience and how the evolving digital ecosystem shapes it. With a track record in senior leadership roles and educational excellence, you exhibit collaborative leadership and a proactive stance in staying abreast of emerging trends and evidence-based practices in digital education and technologies. Your commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in academic practices is matched by your adeptness in navigating complex structures and landscapes, ensuring that institutional strategies align with evolving student digital demands while maintaining regulatory compliance.
Key accountabilities:
- Lead the strategic development and execution of digital learning initiatives, aiming to elevate the student experience through innovative digital solutions
- Provide academic leadership and actively partner with ICT teams to establish and maintain a robust digital infrastructure tailored to student needs
- Formulate and implement academic policies that prioritise simplification, clarity and student-centricity across key digital domains
- Forge a strong partnership with ICT in key domains: technology integration, support, innovation, policy formulation, data security, privacy, accessibility, and inclusivity
- Exercise academic oversight to establish a risk-based quality framework, thereby upholding high standards of academic excellence and regulatory compliance across all digital endeavours.
Term and remuneration
The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position on a full-time basis and will be offered a competitive remuneration package commensurate with the responsibilities of the position and the candidate’s relevant experience and qualifications.
