The Opportunity
This position represents an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team committed to undertaking research and teaching that draws on the strength and knowledge of Indigenous peoples and communities to understand the pathways to health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of all ages and to identify avenues for prevention of avoidable morbidity and mortality.
We are seeking a leader in Indigenous Health for the role of Director of Onemda: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Wellbeing, an outstanding Indigenous group of researchers, educators, and advocates specialising in public health with a focus improving health and wellbeing outcomes for Indigenous people in Australia and elsewhere through partnerships and collaborations and strong ethical foundations. Re-established in 2023 under the leadership of Professor Catherine Chamberlain, Onemda includes 53 academic and professional staff and 10 students, including 27 (18 staff, 9 students) Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members.
The appointee will report to the Head of School, Professor Nancy Baxter, and be supported and mentored in their establishment phase by Associate Dean (Indigenous), Professor Sandra Eades.

You will be a well-respected Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander leader with strong links with Indigenous communities. You will be a community leader or an academic who has the vision, capacity, and interpersonal skills to enable the strategy and direction for Onemda.

Melbourne School of Population and Global Health
The Director of Onemda will both contribute to and draw from the existing academic strengths at the University of Melbourne, particularly in the Melbourne School of Population and Global Health (MSPGH). The MSPGH has considerable expertise in clinical epidemiology, health economics, evaluation and implementation science, biostatistics, and health informatics. The school is committed to increasing capacity in translational research and, in partnership with the Melbourne Medical School, runs the ‘Methods and implementation Support for Clinical and Health Research Hub’ as a resource for researchers both within and outside the faculty with capability in Biostatistics and Clinical Epidemiology, Health Economics, Health Informatics (REDCap), Clinical Trials and Co-Design and Implementation Effectiveness.
