Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit Peace and war are among the oldest dreams and most difficult challenges of human experience. The curriculum brings together faculty and courses from many disciplines to provide undergraduates with a range of approaches to the fundamental issues of human conflict and national and global security and defense.
Position Summary The department of Peace, War, and Defense seeks an Instructor to teach on political economy of west Africa with a focus on development and security as a section of our Special Topics class, in the Spring semester of 2024. The individual hired for this position will be required to teach a course in Chapel Hill. The candidate will also organize one public event related to intelligence and national security. This position would also work closely with faculty in the related departments of Public Policy, History, and Political Science, to help coordinate a distinguished lecture series.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements The successful candidate will demonstrate high quality, enthusiastic teaching and student advocacy, and an ability to work cooperatively and productively with staff and students. A Ph.D. in hand is preferred, but we are also interested in individuals with diplomatic or military experience or other experience in the field of national security. The applicant should specialize in national security, diplomacy, intelligence, international relations, conflict transitions, or negotiations.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Distinguished career as a decorated military leader, scholar of military history, and government official.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
