Since 1888, The Washington Home has been supporting the most
vulnerable in the Washington community. The Washington Home (TWH)
is seeking a Program Associate to help further our mission to fund
entities that create and deliver innovative, compassionate, and
well managed programs to improve the quality of life for older
adults and/or terminally ill residents in the Washington, DC
metropolitan area.
Since 2020, TWH has granted over $14M with nonprofits, and this
position offers an exciting opportunity to facilitate funding and
engage with nonprofit partners deepening our community’s capacity
to care for and support older adults and the critically ill in the
Washington, DC area. As a Program Associate, you will be actively
involved in multiple areas of the Foundation’s programs and grants
department, i.e., grant and fiscal management, community outreach
and event planning, partnership collaboration, community relations,
research, meeting planning, and operations oversight.

Responsibilities include:
- Grant & Fiscal Management: Provide
comprehensive administrative support to the Chief Executive Officer
and Program Officer/Manager, e.g.: calendars, events, contacts,
expense reports, analytical assessments, travel arrangements, etc.
Contribute to a high level of work quality and accuracy by
maintaining a constant commitment to oversight and adherence to the
Foundation’s internal quality control processes for managing
grants. Provide support for key administrative tasks related to
managing the grant application process, including: grantee
training, application submission, application review, grant
agreements, grant report oversight, and grantee site visits. Assist
Chief Executive Officer and Program Officer/Manager with other
grant-related tasks as needed. - Community Outreach & Event Planning:
Actively participate in the planning and execution of Foundation
community outreach and stakeholder events. Coordinate and attend
special events; assist as needed to effectively represent the
Foundation. - Partnership Collaboration: Cultivate new
partnerships with organizations that align with the Foundation’s
mission, monitor trends affecting the target population, and seek
opportunities to expand the Foundation’s impact. - Community Relations: Cultivate relationships
with grantees, related organizations, other foundations, and the
TWH Foundation team to keep stakeholders connected and engaged.
Welcome visitors or attendants to meetings in a professional and
warm manner. Create a knowledge database to answer first level
grantee questions. Serve to triage incoming calls and support
grantees with immediate resolution if possible. - Research: Support program research
initiatives. Draft reports, white papers, and other informational
documents. Create presentation materials and resources for diverse
stakeholder groups, including internal and external audiences.
Analyze data and information and produce presentations. Assist with
correspondence, memos, and research summaries. - Meeting Preparation: Collaborate with Chief
Executive Officer and Program Officer/Manager to prepare materials
to support the Board/Committee meetings. Serve as support for
executive meetings and board meetings with a range of
responsibilities. - Operations Oversight: Answer incoming central
phone calls, assist callers with information, and direct calls to
the appropriate person. Coordinate refreshments for meetings and
luncheons. Manage deliveries and ensure that adequate supplies are
available. Retrieve, sort, and distribute mail. Assist with digital
and hard copy filing systems. - Communications: Support website updates
(WordPress), and content creation; contribute ideas for continuous
site development. Support email outreach (Constant Contact) and
list management.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree preferred – areas of interest
include older adults, healthcare, community, social work, medical
field - Minimum 2+ years of nonprofit or foundation related experience
that includes the functional areas cited above - Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required
- Experience with grant and customer relationship management
software - Proficient with email communication software and website
management - Experience organizing and prioritizing multiple projects in a
deadline-driven environment - Experience building and maintaining strong interpersonal
relationships with donors, funders, volunteers, and staff - Experience writing and creating presentations for a variety of
audiences, with strong presentation skills - Project management expertise – highly organized with a keen eye
on detail - Capable of delivering multiple deliverables on deadline
- Strong analytical and critical thinking mindset
- Proven problem-solving skills with ability to analyze
situations, identify existing or potential problems, and recommend
solutions
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Proficient writer – communicating clearly and informatively,
proofreading work for correct spelling and grammar, able to vary
writing style to meet different communication needs - Ability to calmly function in a high-paced and, at times,
hectic environment - Available to work some evenings and weekends for deadlines and
special events - Can demonstrate professionalism with both internal and external
customers; have a strong work ethic, exercise discretion, and
maintain confidentiality - Effective communicator – can easily adapt to working with a
variety of people and differing perspectives - Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and
adjust to changing priorities - Can initiate and follow-through on work independently,
utilizing excellent time management skills in order to meet
assigned deadlines - Have a commitment to the Foundation’s mission, core values, and
unique position in the community

Hybrid: Standard office environment and remote office location
