The USFS Resource Assistant Program (RAP) is a rigorous, immersive, paid internship providing developmental and training opportunities for individuals interested in learning more about Forest Service careers.
Resource Assistants work on a variety of projects including landscape architecture, engineering, geology, hydrology, recreation management, communications, botany, and more!
Stewards is currently recruiting for multiple Resource Assistant positions focused on recreation management, geology, and data management.
Resource Assistant (RAs) positions are 12 months in length. All RAs are provided with an hourly wage ($15-$18.75/hour), receive a $1000/month housing allowance (pre-tax), and have at least $2750 in professional development funds.
After completing a minimum of 960 hours of satisfactory work and obtainment of at least an associate degree, RA’s may acquire a two-year certificate of noncompetitive hiring eligibility. The certificate enables participants to apply to internal merit announcements for qualifying permanent General Schedule FS positions as well as a Direct Hire Authority for FS Career positions.
