This position is located in New York, NY, within the ILR School located at 570 Lexington Avenue.
The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Program Coordinator – Coord Program C06 in the Climate Jobs Institute in the Extension/Outreach Division with a focus on the intersection of labor, employment, and climate change.

Through cutting-edge policy research, deep relationships with on-the-ground partners, and innovative training and education programs, the Institute provides the information that policymakers, the labor and environmental movements, industry leaders and others need to navigate this historic transition to a zero-carbon economy.
The Climate Jobs Institute serves as the academic and educational partner to the Climate Jobs National Resource Center, providing research, policy, and educational support to coalitions of unions in numerous U.S. states.

What we are seeking:

The Program Coordinator will coordinate and monitor project, operational, and administrative functions for ILR’s Climate Jobs Institute (CJI), which conducts high-quality research, provides innovative policy solutions, and delivers top-notch educational programming that policymakers, the labor and environmental movements, industry leaders, and others need to design and implement New York State’s climate plans.

Responsibilities include managing scheduling and administrative processes for statewide CJI events and programs; drafting and editing a variety of documents and reports; monitoring expenses, auditing accounts, and assisting with the development of budget reports; contributing to the development, maintenance, and enhancement of CJI’s website and supporting marketing and communications needs, in collaboration with ILR Marketing, Communications, and Media Relations; and managing student engagement and coordinating faculty speaking series.

This position contributes to achieving successful execution of program initiatives and demands the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work on simultaneous projects, and work successfully under pressure with minimal supervision at a variety of functions within a fast-paced team environment.

This is a term, full-time, bargaining unit position that falls under the NYC ILR Extension exempt CWA contract. Initial appointment through June 30, 2025, position may be reappointed with approval based on available funding and work.

The position is based in the Cornell University, New York City ILR Extension office located at 570 Lexington Ave, New York, NY 10022.

What we need:

  • Bachelor’s degree and two to four years of relevant experience in program, project or event management, in an academic or professional setting or equivalent combination.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, develop, manage, implement and monitor projects and events from conception to completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to manage interactions and communication with faculty, business professionals, contractors, venue providers and senior level clients.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage and prioritize multiple tasks on simultaneous projects, while working within a fast-paced team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and able to adapt to rapidly shifting priorities
  • Must possess the ability to work independently while supporting the efforts of an overall team.
  • Demonstrated history of providing outstanding customer service.
  • Excellent organizational, logistical and scheduling skills to address extended, complex projects timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality and independent judgment.
  • Ability to interact tactfully with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a proactive team member by recognizing or anticipating needs and addressing them.
  • Experience in diplomatically dealing with, and maintaining effective working relationships with business professionals, faculty and internal departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with budgeting, monitoring and managing financial accounts and preparing reports on financial activities.
  • Experience and skill using and learning different software packages and web-based tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Salesforce or other customer relationship management database, Zoom or videoconferencing software, library databases, and Qualtrics).
  • Ability to prepare presentations, create slides, and craft documents for educational programs and trainings.
  • Prior experience working with HTML, Drupal, or other web development tools.
  • Experience with preparing content for various social media platforms, i.e., Facebook, Instagram, etc.
  • Occasional travel within NYS may be required.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:

  • Five or more years of program coordination experience, including program development and coordination, marketing strategy, web content development.
  • Prior experience working in climate change, labor, or policy communication.
  • Proficiency with the specialized applications including: Adobe Acrobat Pro, Qualtrics, Zoom, Box.
  • Familiarity with virtual and web-based learning platforms, technologies and webcasts.
  • Demonstrated ability to write research reports/manuscripts for publication using appropriate style guides.
  • Experience in proofing and editing social science and/or legal papers and reports.
  • Prior experience with grant supported projects.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Knowledge of Canva and InDesign is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish (or other foreign languages).

Salary per CWA exempt bargaining unit contract: $65,416, with education, experience, and relevant skills the hiring salary may be up to $69,900.
