Special Information

  • The preference is for this position to be based in Flagstaff, AZ with a remote or hybrid work option available.

  • This position is expected to travel in-state and out-of-state for meetings, workshops, and conferences as needed.

Job Description

The Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) at Northern Arizona University is seeking an energetic individual to work as part of a small but dedicated team of technical and program specialist to help advance the mission of the National Tribal Air Association (NTAA).

The NTAA is a cooperative agreement between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA), and the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) at Northern Arizona University. The NTAA project team works with, U.S. EPA, program partners, and federally recognized Tribes throughout the US to advance air quality management policies and programs. The team’s work includes supporting the NTAA Executive Committee and member Tribes, policy analysis on air quality and climate change related issues, facilitating calls and meetings with our workgroups, communication, and coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), annual creation and dissemination of the Status of Tribal Air Report (STAR), and assisting with the planning and facilitation of an annual conference, the National Tribal Forum on Air Quality.

This position reports to the NTAA Program Manager.

Program Coordination – 40%

Assist with the development of the Status of Tribal Air Report (STAR)

  • Recruit volunteers to create a STAR Work Group and hold regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Coordinate planning of virtual or in-person presentation of the most recent STAR when complete.
  • Work with volunteers and Program Manager to compile information, edit, and disseminate once complete.
  • Organize webinar to present the STAR to NTAA Member Tribes and other partners.

National Tribal Forum on Air Quality (NTFAQ), and NTAA annual meeting

  • Participate on the NTFAQ Planning Committee, attend scheduled calls.
  • Assist with facilitating presentations, trainings, workshops, and/or panels as needed, during the NTFAQ. Assist with agenda development and presentations for NTAA member luncheon and meeting.

NTAA Work Groups

  • Plan and facilitate monthly and bi-monthly NTAA work groups.
  • Provide support for 1 to 2 NTAA workgroups to plan agendas, create Zoom meetings and send out calendar invitations, facilitate or take notes as needed. Edit notes and distribute to participants and store on SharePoint as needed and requested by work group lead.
  • Provide coordination and logistical support to guest speakers and presenters.

Digital Communication Support – 25%

NTAA Newsletter

  • Research and collect relevant news stories, upcoming events, and other information to create the NTAA monthly Newsletter.
  • Share draft with list of partners and incorporate their feedback in the final version.
  • Send out to NTAA listservs and post to the NTAA website.

Website Support & Digital Outreach

  • Use tools such as Canva, Adobe and other software programs to create flyers and other outreach material for the program.
  • Maintain the website with current monthly newsletters, Policy Resource Kits, current Executive Committee members, and other content as needed.

Administrative and Logistical Support – 20%

  • Provide support for in person and virtual meetings with the NTAA.
  • Attend and provide administrative support for 2 in-person NTAA executive committee meetings a year. Assist in planning agendas, print, and bring nametags, copies of the agenda, copies of reimbursement paperwork, and any other logistical needs to meeting location.
  • Take notes during monthly NTAA calls in accordance with the most up to date standard operating procedure (SOP). Create Action Matrices based on EC calls.
  • Provide organizational and logistical support to the Program Manager.

Data Collection and Reporting Support – 10%

  • Collect stories and data to compile in the State of Tribal Air Report (STAR), review and edit as needed.
  • Collect feedback and statistics about the NTFAQ. This report will include specific comments from attendees, number of tribes in attendance, details of conference activities, lessons learned, and improvement plans for the next Annual Conference. Working with the Program Manager, compile information into a report for dissemination within 45 days of the NTFAQ.

Other – 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field.
  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.
  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. Salary

Anticipated salary range is $44,057 – $51,776. Annual salary commensurate with candidate’s qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position.
