Program Manager, Education and Engagement

Reporting to the Division Manager for Education and Engagement, the Program Manager is responsible for furthering the organization’s mission and impact through education and engagement. This role supports all aspects of the Compact’s education work with a particular emphasis on professional learning for educators and school-based programs. 

The Manager will plan and execute projects and must have a strong background in environmental science, science, and/or environmental education, and communication. The program manager must be well-organized, creative, and resourceful, with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks, assignments, and priorities. 

Schedule: 

This full-time, non-exempt role is primarily a Monday-Friday office-based position. Some evening and weekend work will be required. Cumberland River Compact staff are required to work their first 90 days in the office. After that time, a hybrid schedule of three days in the office can be implemented with permission from the Division Manager. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Education 80%

• Design and facilitate professional learning experiences for educators (workshops, cohorts, etc) focused on using high-quality instruction to advance water, watershed health, stormwater, environmental science, and climate resilience in the classroom.
• Develop curricula, facilitation guides, and supporting materials for professional learning sessions.
• Collaborate with the Education Division team members to develop and lead high-quality experiential water education for the classroom.
• Cultivate relationships and support partnerships with school districts, curriculum leaders, teachers, and administrators through in-person meetings, a monthly newsletter, conference presentations, and more.
• Manage timelines, work plans, and deliverables for education initiatives.
• Assist with communications about educational work, including blogs, newsletters, and social media.
• Track program participation, milestones, and outcomes. Support reporting requirements for grants, funders, or internal stakeholders.
• Maintain documentation, calendars, and shared resources related to education work.

Engagement 20%

• Coordinate community engagement opportunities for the public and water professionals across the Cumberland River basin, including presentations, tabling, events, and other needs.
• Support other Division needs as assigned by the Division Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field, including environmental science, education, communications, or a similar field.
• Strong facilitation and communication skills, including the ability to translate complex topics into accessible learning experiences.
• Teaching experience, preferably for high school, in either a formal or non-formal setting.
• Knowledge of water, watershed, stormwater, environmental education, or climate-related topics, or demonstrated ability to learn and translate technical content.
• Strong event and program planning, execution, and organization skills
• Ability to use Google Suite, Slack, Emma, Canva, and other technical platforms.
• Meet the requirements of our background screening process, including fingerprinting.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle

Preferred 

• Experience in instructional design or curriculum development with an emphasis on effective science teaching strategies (i.e. Next Generation Science, Ambitious Science Teaching, phenomenon-based learning, etc)
• Experience leading or training teachers.
• Familiarity with English Language Learning instructional techniques.
