Under the direction of the Sea Grant Director, the Program Manager for Community Engagement and Professional Development will lead our center wide efforts to more deeply connect with communities across Wisconsin by addressing a fundamental question – How can we work together to build and sustain a community-engaged organization that reflects Sea Grant and Water Resources missions and addresses the needs and priorities of the people of Wisconsin and the Great Lakes?  This position will strive to better connect our work with communities in a way that deepens our relationships, builds trust and ultimately leads toward greater impacts for society. This position will provide leadership as we work together to build relationships with new communities, expand access and service to more communities, facilitate opportunities for deep engagement that connect our staff with each other and with partners and collaborators, and expand opportunities for the next generation of leaders in coastal, marine and water sciences. This position is envisioned as a center wide leader and will work with staff across all of our functional units including outreach and education, communications, research, and administration.

Job Summary:

Provides guidance for program planning, implementation, and evaluation, and/or supervises outreach staff. Monitors budget and appropriate funding for programming. Promotes stable and productive relationships between the university and community. Strives to expand and ensure access to programs, facilities, and educational services to diverse audiences.

Job Responsibilities:

  • 20% – Supervises the implementation of outreach-program-focused strategic planning initiatives and objectives
  • 25% – Develops and implements operating policies and procedures to promote the outreach program in alignment with the strategic plan
  • 5% – Monitors the unit or program budget and approves program expenditures
  • 20% – Reviews recommendations for and provides input on the design and development of new outreach programs or services
  • 10% – Determines outreach program needs and the personnel resource allocation plan
  • 10% – Facilitate opportunities for deeper community engagement that connect Wisconsin Sea Grant mission and staff with partners and collaborators with a focus on underserved communities
  • 10% – Expand opportunities for the next generation of leaders in coastal, marine and water sciences through internships, fellowships and other professional development opportunities
