POSITION: Program Manager
LOCATION: Cofradía, Cortés, Honduras
ABOUT BECA: BECA recruits, trains, and supports recent college graduates to teach in our network of Honduran bilingual schools. Currently, BECA’s 31 full-time volunteer teachers provide high-quality instruction to over 500 disadvantaged students at our three partner schools in northern Honduras. As we have grown over the past decade, our grassroots model has been sustained by robust partnerships between Hondurans committed to educational access in their communities and English- speaking volunteers drawn towards a truly authentic cultural immersion. POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Program Manager (PM) is an in-country team member who focuses on BECA’s team experience and logistics of on-the-ground, programs and events. The PM will move between BECA’s two bilingual school locations in the region of Cortés, Santa Monica Bilingual School and San Jeronimo Bilingual School. In collaboration with our community partners, this person is responsible for leading the team members in cultural and community engagement. This person has a unique opportunity to facilitate the collaboration between a service-minded group of individuals and the Honduran communities in which they operate. The highlight of this job is the genuine nature of the experience: seeing our students succeed in the classroom, getting to know students and their families, and immersing oneself in Honduran culture.
REQUIRED DUTIES:

Coordinate with school partners, Instructional Administrator and BECA Board to support teachers in performing their duties in a goal-oriented, collaborative manner, and that they act in a way that is consistent with the BECA’s mission, teacher contract, expectations and guidelines.

Manage team member experience and well-being including diverse strategies that reflect the needs of a multicultural and diverse team.

Manage and monitor team health and safety in coordination with partners and the Board.

Manage BECA housing including facilitating norms of cohabitation among the team, maintenance and repairs, emergency supplies and visitor coordination.

Manage all on the ground logistics related to and some programming for BECAs programs and events

Summer training, including new team member orientation

Professional development days

Special dinners and events (Thanksgiving, end of year dinner..etc)

Community and team dinners

Homestays

BECA graduate events

Home-school partnership events

Manage and track on-site finances for BECA programs in coordination with a designated Board Member

Manage BECA’s social media presence and online publications (including gathering photos and videos, posting about events in the school and and community during fundraising campaigns and recruitment season)

Support BECA’s fundraising efforts by being the point person on the ground during big campaigns, visits and events.

Support BECA with maintaining our partnerships with a vision to enrich the volunteer experience, improve recruitment and identify potential donors and projects that would further BECA’s mission. (McGuireWoods, Contra Corriente)

Manage BBP program

Manage school inventory of BECA material and resources (books, class sets, tablets), analyze and suggest necessary resources and aid in searching for budget-friendly options in Cofradia and SPS.

Track graduates and have contact information in a spreadsheet

Act as a substitute teacher on occasion

Communicate regularly with BECA’s Instructional Administrator, Program Administrators, and school partners and Board Members to ensure needed supports are in place and to monitor the condition and quality of BECA programs.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual Spanish and English

A commitment to BECA’s mission and a dedication to social justice

At least 2 years experience in nonprofit management and/or education

Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills (experience living in Latin America is preferred)

Ability to manage a large team and solve problems in collaboration with the leadership of the organization

Capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously

Shows self-initiative and competence in decision-making, time-management, and assertiveness in a professional setting

Flexibility and responsiveness to a diverse cultural staff and an ever-changing environment

Experience working in schools or with children

Willingness to operate in a low-resource environment under challenging living conditions

Bachelor’s degree (Education or related field is preferred)

Preference is given to applicants interested in a commitment of 2 years or more
Note:
Housing for this role is provided with all utilities covered in Cofradia, Cortes. It is expected that the Program Manager reside in Cofradia, Cortes the majority of the week.
Salary Range:
$800-1200USD/month depending on experience
