Job purpose :

Vital Strategies is seeking a Research Manager based in New Delhi, India to manage various social and behavior communication change research activities for our Policy, Advocacy & Communication (PAC) team. The Research Manager will play a key role in providing research and data for the development of manuscripts for journals, policy and research briefs, blogs, op-eds and internal training modules. Additionally, the Research Manager will contribute to monitoring new data, evaluating its utilization, and providing assistance in primary research studies.

This position will report to the Associate Director – Research and is part of Vital Strategies India’s Policy Advocacy and Communication (PAC) team. The team has a collaborative culture, clustering people with different skills and backgrounds to execute projects.

Responsibilities:

1. Support the design and implementation of country-specific social and behavior change (SBC) formative research, monitoring and evaluation studies, using qualitative and quantitative research methods.
2. Design research studies, including protocols, questionnaires, sampling and implementation plans.
3. Manage study implementation, ensuring ethical clearance, liaising with market research companies in collaborating countries, troubleshooting, and maintaining frequent communication with all necessary staff.
4. Support high-quality research reports and writings, including informative data analytics and appealing data visualizations.
5. Maintain quantitative and qualitative datasets for ongoing projects and writings.
6. Conduct analysis as necessary and directed, using advanced statistical approaches.
7. Produce visually appealing data representations for use in reports or other technical writings and for use in the media.
8. Prepare reports, presentations, and drafts of academic papers as provided by the team.
9. Support colleagues in producing reports, presentations, and other dissemination material on key research insights and findings, to stakeholders.
10. Perform additional tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Work Experience :
• A Master’s degree in any of the social sciences—such as Psychology, Economics, Sociology, Anthropology, Population Studies or Political Science—with advance coursework in statistics. Candidates with M.Sc. in Statistics, Mathematics or holding a Ph.D. are encouraged to apply.
• Minimum 6 years of relevant work experience. Candidates holding a Ph.D. with lesser years of experience may be considered.

Skills and Abilities:
• Excellent command in conducting advanced statistical and demographic data analyses.
• Knowledge of any statistical software: Excel/R software/STATA/SPSS/Nvivo. Knowledge of SPSS will be preferable.
• Knowledge of data visualization using Tableau, excel, PowerBi or other tools. Knowledge of Tableau will be preferable.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to successfully manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in an international team environment with solid interpersonal and communication skills.
• Able to write manuscripts for journals, policy and research briefs, blogs, op-eds and internal training modules.
• Strong communication skills written, oral, and presentation.
• Strong critical-thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills to design surveys appropriate for use, conduct analysis, and interpret results.
• Understanding of Human Subject Review and Institutional Review Board
Experience:
• Demonstrated experience in research methodology and survey design.
• Experience in synthesizing and presenting research findings in clear
• Experience in the application of Machine Learning and other statistical methods.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
• Applicants must have a valid work permit for India
• Ability to work flexibly with colleagues across time zones.
• Travel domestically or internationally whenever required.

The salary for this position is INR 18,00,000 to INR 20,00,000.
