About the role:

Lead and manage a team of professional and support staff to ensure that our NI-Connect department operates effectively and delivers quality child focused services to the community’s vulnerable children, young people, and families.

This is short-term contract position for approximately six months, with a potential for extension. Based on Norfolk Island, the key responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:

  • Establishing and promoting a culture of continuous learning and professional development, including providing professional supervision to the staff and facilitating reflective practice processes.
  • Oversee and be accountable for compliance with child protection legislation, policy, and procedures, whilst promoting community engagement, early intervention and a ‘strengthening families’ approach to service provision.
  • Provide advice, guidance and support that is mindful to the unique culture and traditions on Norfolk Island.
  • In conjunction with the Operations Manager, assist in the development of the broader strategic business and operational plans for the Norfolk Island Service.
  • Audit, monitor and maintain electronic data systems and record keeping requirements.

About you:

  • Must hold a recognised Social Work Qualification, if social work qualification is from overseas then proof of validation by the AASW is required.
  • Experience in child, youth and family services and/or child protection services, including undertaking comprehensive assessments to develop, implement, monitor and review client plans.
  • Prior experience managing and supervising a team within a Children Services setting.
  • Ability to effectively manage business operations and implement strategic change.
  • Ability to communicate simply and effectively, both verbal and written, with a diverse staff group at all levels, recognising potential language barriers and cultural differences.
