Program Officer Mediation (Focus Afghanistan) (80 – 100 %)

Starting date: 1 October 2024 (or by agreement)

 

The swisspeace Mediation Program provides high-quality support to ongoing peace mediation and dialogue processes, advises mediators and conflict parties, provides capacity building for civil society actors, and runs inclusion formats. It offers dialogue and mediation training and develops knowledge products based on critical reflections and lessons from peace mediation, negotiation, and dialogue processes. The Mediation Program also conducts cutting-edge research aimed at influencing scholarly debates and informing peace mediation practice.

swisspeace is looking for a committed professional to advance its peacebuilding work in Afghanistan and contribute to mediation and dialogue processes in different contexts.

 

Your tasks:

  • Contribute to the mediation team’s Afghanistan work, including outreach, support to consultative processes and research initiatives
  • Lead project management for the team’s Afghanistan projects, including administrative and financial management, reporting, monitoring, evaluation and learning, and relationships with partners
  • Provide expertise for mediation and dialogue processes in different contexts
  • Contribute to practice-based research projects and trainings and capacity-building at the University of Basel and internationally

     

Your profile:

  • Aspiration to shape and grow swisspeace’s work in Afghanistan

  • 4 to 8 years of relevant experience in project management, mediation support, dialogue and/or peacebuilding. Experience in project management is required

  • Field experience in, and/or strong knowledge of conflict and peacebuilding contexts. Experience in or on Afghanistan is a strong asset

  • Excellent spoken and written English; knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto are strong assets

  • Excellent analytical and drafting skills

  • Experience in delivering training and coaching activities

  • A team player with an ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines and an ability to work in politically sensitive contexts

  • Availability to travel frequently, including to conflict-affected contexts
