Program Veterinarian Leader

tendersglobal.net

Lead and teach group of 10-15 middle or high school students at one of our one-week pre-vet camps at a zoo, rescue, or animal hospital!

We provide travel to the program site, housing, meals, curriculum, online training, and welcome both brand new vets and experienced vets to lead our US programs.

We also have programs in 10 other countries, mostly 2-week programs for university students, but those usually require 2-3 years work experience. Leading a US program is the best place for an vet to start their Loop Abroad journey and gets you in line earlier for international placements next season

The Program Vet Leader is responsible for giving prepared lectures on various topics of zoo and wildlife conservation and medicine as well as facilitating hands-on learning and volunteering led by host staff.

Our best Loop Abroad veterinary leaders:

  • Love mentoring students both in and out of the classroom
  • Enjoy exploring new cultures and sharing experiences with students
  • Model flexibility and a positive attitude when confronting the unexpected (ie weather, animals, hosts) that require changes to schedule or activities
  • Use humor and playfulness to inspire students and make the most of every travel, veterinary, and cultural experience. Every moment is a teachable moment!

Veterinarians should expect limited free time. In most cases, you will be eating, lecturing, teaching labs, volunteering, relaxing, and sleeping on site with your students – and sometimes “on site” means in a jungle for international programs! Make sure you will enjoy spending this much time in close quarters with our students.

Most of our US programs involve a team of 3 to 7 Loop Abroad team members including vets and returning students.Apply to these programs if you are:

  • Based in the USA
  • Comfortable teaching a basic curriculum about various taxa of animals and their conservation and care.
  • Comfortable leading a group of high school students ages 12 to 14
  • Comfortable leading team building activities, helping guide group dynamics, and being a mentor both in and out of the classroom
  • Have a passion for zoo medicine and improving welfare for captive wildlife
