Context

This assignment is funded by the Benue State Government, Nigeria.
Therefore, specific eligibility criteria apply:
– Only Benue state citizens resident in Nigeria are eligible to apply.
Nigeria is one of the 55 countries with a severe shortage of health workforce on the WHO Safeguard list 2023. The main HRH challenges include shortages and inequitable distribution of health workforce, poor HRH planning, uninformed policy decisions, inadequate recruitment and retention strategies, and inadequate training capacities. These challenges result in disparities in health workforce densities by geographical locations (urban and rural areas) and levels of health care delivery.WHO is supporting Nigeria to strengthen her workforce towards achieving universal health coverage, through evidence generation, policy formulation, strengthening the capacity of government and regulatory bodies and interventions to increase the number and quality of health workers in Nigeria in the short term.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of Team Lead of the Universal Health Coverage Life Course Cluster, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
• Support the tracking of programme implementation, preparation of technical brief-ing/meeting/workshop/capacity building, regular reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly) and facilitate the timely submission of technical reports
• Support preparation of concept notes and document the implementation of specific activities in the Health Workforce Strengthening project
• Respond to and follow up on requests from the MoH to WHO, and from the WHO/AFRO or HQ to the WCO.
• Participate in meetings in health systems and life course and document proceedings when required.
• Support the UHC/Life Course Cluster team to ensure functionality and backstopping for the team members.
• Enhance partnerships with government counterparts, stakeholders and private sec-tor to elevate the momentum for achieving the national health goals.
