How can you make a difference?

UNICEF Office of Innovation is looking to fill a fixed term position of Programme Associate, level GS6. Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor Innovation (Portfolio, Culture and Scale), the Programme Associate is accountable for communications, programme and operations, and administrative support services to enhance the smooth running of the supervisor’s day-to day activities. This involves management of information and coordination of matters within a substantive team. The post is a key interface with a broad range of contacts including high-ranking officials, both within and outside the Organization. The post prioritizes tasks and organizes work independently based on general direction from the supervisor.

Key functions, accountabilities, and related duties/tasks

  • Undertake programme management for PCS resources, including coordinating to completion annual work planning, monitoring and reporting, and coordinating timely donor (external) and other (internal) reporting requirements.
  • Regularly monitoring budgets and financial expenditures of the team by employing applicable tools, ensuring compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations, keeping supervisor informed and advised on actions for decision and/or follow up.
  • Undertake budget tracking for significant cross-portfolio innovation portfolio investments. Monitoring and reporting to support effective implementation and results of millions of dollars of investments across country offices and regional offices.
  • Build an overall culture of learning & improvement across the Office of Innovation, including sharing of best practices around programme and budget management.
  • Undertake timely and accurate administrative tasks in coordination with the Operations team related to procurement, contract monitoring, invoice processing, and carrying out transactions in VISION (SAP).
  • Register grant allotments and tracking expiring programme grants, ensuring effective utilisation of funds.
  • Prepare monitoring and reporting information for supervisor and team on agreed performance indicators to drive more efficient management and accountability for results.
  • Prepare financial reports relating to country office and donors to support the office in optimizing use of programme funds.

Education:

  • Completion of secondary education is required, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization.

Experience:

  • A minimum of six years of administrative or clerical work experience is required.
  • Prior experience in programme support functions is an asset.
  • Relevant experience in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.

Language requirements: 

  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge and fluency of another UN language is an asset.
