Context

WFP India has four Strategic Objectives (SO), one of which is Climate Change, Resilient Food System and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) (SO4). Under this Objective, WFP India provides technical assistance to the government of India on issues pertaining to climate resilient food systems and livelihoods as well as disaster risk reduction and management, to contribute to the achievement of SDG 2 and SDG 13. WFP India will be implementing various projects on climate adaptation, resilience building and gender transformative change under this objective.
A regional project “Strengthening resilience of vulnerable communities in Sri Lanka and India to increased impacts of climate change (ADAPT4R)”, financed by the Adaptation Fund is a five year project (2023-28) for which WFP is appointed as the Multilateral Implementing agency. The project will be implemented through the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change (MoEFCC), and the responsible departments of the selected state governments, namely Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Tamil Nadu, and aims to enhance the resilience of dryland communities to climate change through improved climate service and targeted adaptation interventions.
Another project has been recently launched in climatically vulnerable northeastern region of Assam will support the smallholder farmers, women and their collectives to improve resilience and sustainable food security using nature-based solutions. WFP is also supporting some other initiatives of the Government of India including mainstreaming of the climate resilient crops like millets.
WFP seeks to engage a UN Volunteer to contribute towards undertaking primary research, developing guidelines and terms of reference for implementation of the project, and creating monitoring and reporting systems of the project activities for these new projects.

Task description

Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer, Resilient Food Systems, with overall guidance of the Head of Unit for Climate Change, Resilient Food Systems and DRR, and in close co-ordination with the field staff, the UN Volunteer, as a part of the team, will undertake the following tasks:
• Assist the project team in developing concept notes, draft terms of reference and communication materials which will support the implementation of the project activi-ties conducting relevant studies/research.
• Assist in finalizing the ToRs for undertaking Community Based Participatory Planning and Seasonal Livelihood Planning in the ADAPT4R project areas.
• Contribute to data collection, data analysis and monitoring and reporting activities for projects including for environmental safeguard assessments.
• Participate in and contribute to preparation, and follow-up of meetings, workshops and consultations as needed by engaging with relevant stakeholders including gov-ernments, communities, and donors.
• Assist the team in developing the implementation guidelines, M&E frameworks and documentation of the activities related to the activities implemented by the SO4 unit.
• Participate in knowledge exchange and learning sessions with Sri Lanka and other countries, and document and incorporate the learnings into the project plans.
• Contribute to developing effective communication materials for the projects imple-mented by the SO4 unit.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by read-ing relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities;
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publica-tions/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering, or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenev-er technically possible.
