About Maiya School:
Maiya School is an Australian-registered not-for-profit founded to provide teenage girls affected by displacement around the world the opportunity to attain an education. Maiya School is motivated to increase opportunities, raise self-confidence, and inspire a generation of girls living in refugee camps where female education is largely inaccessible.
Currently, Maiya School is implementing girls’ education projects in the Rohingya refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, and women’s empowerment, training and livelihood projects within the surrounding host community.
Through innovative, community-driven and gender-transformative initiatives, Maiya School aims to empower girls and women impacted by displacement, enabling them to build brighter futures and contribute positively to their communities despite the hardships they face. Maiya School is committed to making a tangible difference in the lives of refugee girls and advocating for gender equality in humanitarian programming.
Position Overview:
The Programme Implementation Manager at Maiya School will play a pivotal role in ensuring the effective delivery of our education and livelihood development projects in Cox’s Bazar. This position requires a dynamic leader with exceptional project management skills to oversee implementation, monitor progress, and foster partnerships that align with our mission of empowering Rohingya refugee girls and Bangladeshi women through education and training. The manager will coordinate closely with implementing partners, engage with stakeholders, and advocate for the adoption of Maiya School’s innovative education model. This role is vital for maintaining accountability, strengthening impact, and driving sustainable change.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Project Implementation and Oversight
- Oversee the execution of project activities to ensure they are delivered on schedule and meet quality benchmarks.
- Facilitate weekly coordination meetings with our implementing partner organisation, ensuring adherence to project design and timely completion of assigned tasks.
- Represent Maiya School at Cox’s Bazar Education Sector meetings, building and maintaining robust networks within the education and humanitarian sectors.
- Provide regular updates to the headquarters, detailing progress, challenges, and opportunities for strategic alignment and growth.
Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting
- Implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to measure project progress and outcomes.
- Collect and analyse data to assess programme impact and inform evidence-based decision-making.
- Oversee small-scale research initiatives.
- Prepare detailed and insightful project reports that align with organisational and donor requirements.
Financial and Resource Management
- Conduct regular reviews of the partner organisation’s accounts to ensure transparency and financial accountability (basic financial oversight).
- Manage the allocation and utilisation of project resources, ensuring efficiency and proper stewardship.
Stakeholder and Community Engagement
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with local government officials, community leaders, and other NGOs to foster collaboration and strengthen partnerships.
- Represent Maiya School as a key spokesperson at events, meetings, and public forums, embodying the organisation’s values and mission.
Capacity Building and Team Development
- Provide training and mentorship to local staff and partner organisation team members to enhance their capacity for project implementation, monitoring, and reporting.
Communications and Advocacy
- Capture high-quality photographs of project activities and manage regular social media updates to promote Maiya School’s work and impact.
- Develop and lead advocacy efforts to promote the adoption of Maiya School’s successful girls’ education model.
ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in International Development, Humanitarian Studies, Education, or a related field.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience working in education or humanitarian programmes, ideally in gender-related projects.
Skills:
- Independence and Proactivity: Ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and anticipate challenges before they arise.
- Strong Communication: Strong communication skills to ensure transparency with managers, including proactively flagging problems and providing clear updates.
- Relationship Building: Exceptional interpersonal skills to build and maintain trust with stakeholders, including community leaders, government officials, and partners.
- Problem-Solving: A solution-oriented mindset with the ability to address challenges creatively and effectively.
Other Requirements:
- Commitment to gender equality and the organisation’s mission to empower marginalised populations.
- Willingness to be based in Cox’s Bazar, with regular field visits to project sites.
Language requirements:
- Proficiency in English required
- Proficiency in Bangla required
- Knowledge of Chittagonian or other local languages is an advantage.
