Objective of the function

The role requires someone who is interested in the child protection space specifically working with both state and non-state actors in the fight against child exploitation in the Country. The Programme Intern(PI) will work closely with the programme officer in ensuring the successful implementation of SEC projects in line with the project life cycle.

Position in the Organisation

The Programme Intern will work with the country team, and receive direct leadership and supervision from the Programme Officer (PO) to whom he/she will report. He/she will provide a supportive role in supporting the partners in the effective and efficient implementation of SEC projects. He/she will support the partners in monitoring, documenting and routine reporting as per internal and external donors reporting requirements. As part of learning, he/she will work closely with the Finance and Administration Officer, MEAL Officer and other team members. This position will be based in Nairobi with travel to the projects’ sites.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

The programme intern with the support of the PO will:

1. Support in effective implementation of projects.

  • Work in close collaboration and consultation with partners in planning, implementation, and reporting of project activities.
  • Monitor and support partners to ensure that programme and finance commitments are fulfilled through quarterly performance management and support supervision
  • Support overall monthly project management, including effective planning, implementation and monitoring of project outcomes.
  • Support in conducting monthly/quarterly reviews on the progress of the project in terms of time, budget and quality and address any conflicts/bottlenecks/delays as guided by the PO
  • Support in project review meetings and documentation of lessons learnt, challenges and new thinking in implementation of projects.
  • Maintain contacts with relevant government agencies, private sector and other key stakeholders and act as a link between the actors and the projects as guided by the PO.
  • Ensure efficient use of resources and that programme and finance commitments as per the partner contracts are being fulfilled with assistance from the PO
  • Support sound tracking of projects progress and risk management using appropriate project cycle management tools as provided by TdH NL.
  • Support the PO and partners in development of subsequent years proposals and project documents.

2. Programme results for the partner and programme portfolio

  • Support and monitor the partners through regular communications and programme visits in ensuring implementation is on course
  • Support in review of PRIMAS reports and narrative reports
  • Work closely with the PO to support partners to conduct outcome harvesting for effective reporting of change as a result of project interventions.
  • Support in documentation of change stories across the SEC project as per the guidance given by Marketing and Communications (MACO) team
  • Support in updating project documentation/ files for reference by all concerned.

Knowledge, skills and experience

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Social Work, Psychology, community Development, Gender and Sociology OR

  • Recently completed (less than a year) a bachelor in Social Work, Psychology, community Development, Gender and Sociology

  • Proficiency in MS word , Ms Powerpoint and Google Sheets is essential
