Interns bring diverse profiles and knowledge, innovative thinking and different ideas to the UNHCR workplace. The work of UNHCR also benefits broadly from increased linkages and exchanges, formal and informal, with academia globally through interns. The work of interns is expected to contribute to UNHCR delivering on its mandate for refugees and asylum seekers, returnees, stateless people and internally displaced persons and helping the Organization remain relevant in the competitive humanitarian environment. UNHCR provides interns with a learning opportunity to gain knowledge and practical experience related to their academic programme or future work in a field related to UNHCR’s mission. By being directly exposed to the work of the Organization, interns have the chance to develop their skills and aptitudes.
The Programme Intern will acquire knowledge and develop competencies that are specifically related to the UNHCR Programme activities as carried out in MCO Italy. S/he will provide practical assistance to the Programme Unit.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Senior Programme Assistant and in close coordination with the other team members, the Programme Intern will be performing the following activities:
- Support the unit in managing partnership agreements, Programme capacity-building activities
- Providing administrative assistance to the Unit to ensure that routine services and activities are properly implemented;
- Support in preparing financial and narrative reports for reporting to donors on projects implemented by UNHCR and NGO partners;
- Support in data systematization and support for monitoring, reporting and evaluation of UNHCR’s programmes in Italy, in close cooperation with the IM unit; support the data consistency review process;
- Extrapolate relevant actions from the systematic review of policies and procedures;
- Preparation and creation of offline forms and toolkits
- Assistance with periodic monitoring and reporting of financial performance and preparation of relevant factsheets and infographics;
- Monitor and analyse the submission of partners monthly reports and monitoring toolkits for partners;
- Support the team during selected partners verification and monitoring visits;
- Proofreading and support in reviewing legal documents, including grant agreements and MoUs;
- Drafting narratives and meeting minutes, as required;
- Logistic and administrative support for the preparation of events, meetings and training
- Maintaining various records and files for electronic archives.
Minimum qualifications required :
- Fluency in English (working language) and Italian (local language);
- Good command of Microsoft Office suite, Excel and Power Point particularly (mastering charts, data mining);
- Some experience in data management is desirable;
- Flexibility and adaptability;
- Good interpersonal relations and team working skills.
