Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. This position is located in UNEP’s Country Office in New Delhi, India. Under the overall supervision of the Regional Director and direct supervision of the Head of India Country Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
Responsibilities
• Leads the planning and implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the India office Workplan aligned with the UNEP’s Medium Term Strategy 2022-25, Programmes of Work, Regional Office annual workplans and the New Delivery Model. • Supports the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned initiatives and projects, etc.; with a focus on addressing pollution and the sound management of chemicals; monitors and analyzes initiatives and project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and initiates corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; ensures follow-up actions. • Researches, analyzes and presents information related to on-going and emerging national and transboundary environmental issues with a focus on addressing pollution and the sound management of chemicals, gathered from diverse sources to inform policy and project development and provide advisory support to key stakeholders including the UN Resident Coordinator, UNEP Regional Office and Divisions. . • Organizes and prepares written outputs including bilateral meeting briefs, India country brief draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. as requested • Supports UNEP’s engagement in the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) 2023-2027 implementation and reporting processes including, inter alia, UNSDCF and UN INFO annual reporting, annual updates of the UN Common Country Analysis, and UNEP’s role as co-lead of UNSDCF Outcome group on Environment, Climate, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) and Resilience. • Provides substantive backstopping to UNEP consultative and other meetings, conferences, to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of relevant documents and presentations. • Facilitates and/or participates in UNEP missions to and within India, including provision of guidance to UNEP Regional Office and Division staff, external consultants, government officials and other parties and and support drafting of pre and post mission documents. • Leads the planning and implementation of outreach communications activities to ensure high visibility and outreach of the programme and supports the corporate communications outreach activities in consultation with UNEP’s regional communications team. • Leads and coordinates the development, implementation and monitoring of the India Office Resource Mobilization plan for the Programme portfolio, ensuring synergy as well as providing input and engagement in the Corporate and Regional Resource Mobilization Plans. • Coordinates activities related to secured budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget). • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Performs other duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in environmental sciences or related field is required. A first level university degree ( Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in combination with two (2) additional years of relevant qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in environment or sustainable development is required. Experience in addressing pollution across different industry sectors and sound management of chemicals is required. Experience in environment and climate related strategic planning, policy research and assessments is desirable. Experience in programme and projects design, development and implementation using results framework is desirable. Experience with the UN or similar entities is desirable. Two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of other official United Nations languages is desirable. NOTE: “Fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of “confident” in two of the four areas.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
Special Notice
This position is temporarily available for 364 days and may be subject to extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. While this temporary assignment may provide the successful applicant with an opportunity to gain new work experience, the selection for this position is for a limited period and has no bearing on the future incumbency of the post.
