Position description

Org. Setting and Reporting

The post is located in Portfolio Management and Outreach (PMO) team of the Laboratory and Scientific Services (LSS), Drugs, Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch (DLSSB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer (Synthetic Drugs), leading the Portfolio Management and Outreach team.

Responsibilities

Within assigned authority, the incumbent will support coordination, delivery, promotion and implementation of the activities of the UNODC Synthetic Drug Strategy and LSS Global Forensic Science and Services Programme, responsible for the following specific duties:

  • Participate in the development, implementation, evaluation and reporting of/on assigned programmes/projects, etc.; monitor and analyze programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; identify problems and issues to be addressed and propose corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions;
  • Contribute to researching, analyzing and presenting information on synthetic drugs gathered from diverse sources;
  • Undertake survey initiatives; design data collection tools; review, analyze and interpret responses, identify problems/issues and prepare conclusions;
  • Prepare various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, communication materials, etc.;
  • Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and presentations, etc.;
  • Undertake outreach activities; provide support in conducting training workshops, seminars, etc.; contribute to making presentations on assigned topics/activities related to the UNODC Synthetic Drug Strategy;
  • Participate in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries, etc.;
  • Assist in coordinating activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and in preparing related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.);
  • Coordinate the preparation of information materials (brochures, web-stories, posters, etc.) in support of the UNODC Synthetic Drug Strategy and disseminate related materials to governments, donors, NGOs, and the general public, as appropriate;
  • Collect and analyze data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting;
  • Perform other work-related duties as required.

Education

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in political science, development studies, international relations, business administration, management, or a related field, is required;
  • A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience

  • A minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in drug control and crime prevention, with experience in both drug supply and drug demand reduction is required;
  • At least 3 years of experience in project management, administration or related area is required;
  • Work experience in an international or regional organization is required;
  • Experience in content management, collaborative and project management systems, is desirable;
  • Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.

Languages

  • English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English, is required. Knowledge of Spanish or French is an advantage.
