TRAFFIC International is a charity and limited company registered in the UK. TRAFFIC’s head office, based in Cambridge UK, provides worldwide leadership, coordination, cross-regional and corporate functions. TRAFFIC’s local engagement is managed through programme offices operating under the auspices of the UK charity, with staff based in a hub office and at other strategic locations where necessary. Programme offices operate within a geographic area of responsibility focused on one or multiple countries where TRAFFIC aims to help deliver priority programme outcomes. TRAFFIC works in strategic alliance with IUCN and WWF on wildlife trade issues.
The successful candidate will provide Programme Manager – Global level expertise and support to a range of priority Global Programme Office initiatives for which urgent specialised capacity is needed.
The responsibilities will span the Data, Research, Enforcement and Support (DRES) and Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) teams. Tasks will include helping to guide and coordinate consultations and methodologies to prioritise programmatic activities within our strategy, providing support to the Senior Director, Global Programme Office on various organisation wide consultations and meetings, and managing TRAFFIC’s input to several key initiatives.
The role will work in close cooperation with other TRAFFIC staff members,and will ensure timely delivery of activities and outputs.
Duties:
  • Responsible for providing technical and coordination expertise across a range of key initiatives including prioritisation of strategy activities, work planning, reporting, and external engagement to support the development and implementation of the Global Office’s programmatic work
  • Lead selected consultations across the organisation as requested by the Senior Director to contribute to inform and collate lessons learned on prioritisation, work planning and impact reporting
  • Coordinate TRAFFIC’s input to selected internal and external facing meetings and consultations
  • To track, monitor and mobilise TRAFFIC opportunities and engagement with particular donor initiatives including the Global Wildlife Programme
  • Support the organisation of the internal virtual TRAFFIC Global Programme Meeting in May 2024
  • Support the Senior Director on organisational initiatives such as the review of regionalisation and decentralisation and help develop recommendations for actions
  • Responsible for compiling requested reports, briefing papers and other communication outputs as needed for programme implementation
  • Provide technical and coordination expertise to activities as requested by the DRES team.
  • Collaborate and maintain strong internal relationships with TRAFFIC teams
  • Ensure the technical quality and timely delivery of planned activities across a portfolio of initiatives
  • Represent TRAFFIC with internal and external audiences as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Must have a degree or higher in a relevant discipline with experience working in wildlife trade and an understanding of working in a not for profit organisation.
  • Several years experience, evidenced working at a similar sized international organisation and specialising in wildlife trade.
  • Strong knowledge of wildlife trade issues, including the legal frameworks, CITES and working with government aid agencies as donors.
  • Demonstrated ability in project management skills which include the ability to multi-tasking effectively, coordinate and work together in a team whilst understand cultural sensitivities.
  • Strong communication verbal and written skills in English, with experience of report writing. Another key language would be desirable.
  • A keen eye for detail and an analytical mind will be beneficial to enable success in the role.
  • The ability to be adaptable and flexible is crucial
