Job Purpose
Lead a team in planning, developing and implementing programme/projects in Explosive Ordnance Risk Reduction (EORR) in collaboration with other divisions ensuring alignment with the GICHD’s strategy. Provide advise and represent the GICHD with external stakeholders, understand needs and propose interventions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage relevant programme/projects in accordance with agreed work plans, objectives, priorities, and resources and ensure that they contribute to GICHD’s subs-strategies.
- Manage, develop, and actively guide team members to enhance their skills and capabilities and work to resolve any conflicts that might arise while driving an inclusive, accountable and respectful culture.
- Ensure that programme/projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required level of quality, communicating any deviations promptly to the relevant parties.
- Ensure programme staff comply with applicable donor agreements and GICHD rules and guidelines, including reporting on programme/projects. Prepare concept notes, project proposals, budgets and review financial reports for submission to auditors and donors as required by the Head of Division.
- Manage programme/projects budgets, authorise expenditures, monitor project spending, manage grant allocations, forecast future expenditures in compliance with Internal rules, procedures and donor requirements.
- Identify, evaluate, assess, mitigate and communicate risks throughout the programme/projects life-cycle and ensure the accuracy of results reported into the Results Based Management (RBM) system.
- Negotiate and set objectives with external partners, in compliance with the GICHD’s decision making architecture.
- Design, organise and convene seminars, meetings, assessments, workshops, and learning activities pertaining to capacity development of relevant partners. Represent GICHD at meetings, conferences, seminars and other events.
- Lead, coordinate research work, and approve draft articles, issue briefs, case studies and other publications.
- Oversee contracting and monitoring of external consultants and suppliers as per the GICHD’s procurement rules.
- Coordinate and communicate internally across teams, programmes and divisions to promote synergies and deliver as one GICHD to ensure effective information dissemination.
Job Requirements
- Master’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience
- More than 10 years of previous relevant work experience in explosive ordnance risk reduction and/or disarmament
- Experience in leading teams and managing processes and projects
- Excellent English, both written and oral; fluency in an any other language spoken in Explosive Ordnance affected countries is an advantage.
- Excellent project management, analytical, planning and organisational skills
- Effective and persuasive verbal, written and presentation skills.
- Excellent people skills and ability to work in multi-cultural settings with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Knowledge of UN agencies, relevant national authorities, NGOs and humanitarian organisations.

Travel requirements
Expected to travel up to 25% of the working time including to countries affected by explosive ordnance, with low-medium-high risk environment
Salary Information
Please note that the salary level for this role starts at CHF 128’257 yearly gross, subject to social security deductions and income tax. The GICHD applies a progressive salary scheme The compensation policy is currently under review and is subject to change. This is an open-ended contract.
