UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.
UN Women supports UN Member States as they set global standards for achieving gender equality and works with governments and women civil society globally to design laws, policies, programmes and services needed to ensure that standards are effectively implemented to the benefit women and girls, in all their diversity. Through its Thailand Country Programme, UN Women builds on a long history of support to the government and women’s civil society organisations in the country. Under the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, UN Women delivers normative, operational and coordination support to ensure that women can fully, equally, and meaningfully contribute to building and sustaining inclusive, just and peaceful societies. The rise of cyber scams and cyber-facilitated trafficking in women in Asia-Pacific over the past year has brought new challenges to the fore, threatening women’s security and rights in the digital age. In response, governments, women civil society, and international organisations are mobilising to counter the threat.
